Our allergist told us that we needed to replace any carpeting, stuffed furniture, and mattresses that were 10 years old. So we replaced our carpeting in the living room and went to Ethan Allen for the furniture. We’d heard good things about Ethan Allen quality and after going through their selection process, we’re believers. The new furniture (built in North Carolina) was delivered last week. After trying the chairs and the sofa for a few days, we found we loved the comfort. Yes, the cushions might be too firm for some people, but that’s the way we like our furniture. We don’t like to sink down and struggle to escape. This Ethan Allen furniture is also the HEAVIEST furniture we’ve ever owned. If you judge quality by weight, this is Good Stuff.
I guess my thirty year old sofa, still as pretty as the day I bought it, should go then. Is that leather chair a recliner. Phil is looking for a new one. His has no padding and drives him crazy. It’s one of those ones they were pushing five years ago as good for the back.
That chair is a swivel rocker, Patti. And, yes, it’s good for the back. You can also buy the swivel-rocker-recliner model. Lazy Boy makes them, too.

The couch (looks like ours, only ours has three cushions and is a dark orange) and chairs look really comfortable.
After only a week, we’ve found we really like Ethan Allen furniture, Jeff. Very comfortable! We used to buy all of our furniture from a friend who owned a furniture store. We would tell him what we wanted and he’d order it. But our friend retired and sold his business so we had to turn to someone else. It turned out to be Ethan Allen.

Diane gets all the credit for the new furniture, Rick. She searched seven or eight furniture stores and narrowed the prospective choices down to a manageable number for me to deal with. Ethan Allen is pricey, but the quality is definitely there.
