Ashanti was just one of the stars who showed up to help on ABC’s EXTREME MAKEOVER HOME EDITION: BUFFALO. You’ll see stars sprinkled in throughout the program which airs tonight at 8 P.M. EDT here (check your local listings). The EXTREME MAKEOVER crew came to one of Buffalo’s worst neighborhoods and built a fabulous new house (above) for a deserving woman and her family. But, they didn’t stop there. The building crew went up and down the street fixing roofs, painting houses, and conducting general repairs. The whole neighborhood was revitalized! And all of this work was done in ONE WEEK! Why can’t Government do something like this? There have been numerous “urban renewal” projects in Buffalo, but none of them had the impact of the work done by this reality TV program. Something is very, very wrong with our housing policies. Watch this program, and I’ll guarantee your eyes will get misty.
That’s one of Jackie’s favorite shows. Good to know that they really do it all in a week, which is hard to believe sometimes.
The Buffalo media followed the progress of the project each day, Jeff. It was amazing how much work was accomplished in such a short time!
I’m not familiar with this show, but the house reminds me very much of the “shot-gun” style house popular in New Orleans; in fact, I thought that must be a New Orleans street when I first saw the picture. I wish the show would head down to the 9th ward and help some of the people whose homes are still ravaged from Hurricane Katrina.
The Buffalo neighborhood EXTREME MAKEOVER HOME EDITION revitalized was just as dilapidated as any New Orleans, Deb. Poverty distressingly looks the same whether it’s in Buffalo or Haiti.
They usually end up with much much bigger houses, Deb, but I guess they have to go with the size of the plot they have to work with. I agree that New Orleans has a lot of areas that need the help, and exposure.
You’ll be surprised at the new house EXTREME MAKEOVER HOME EDITION built in that ghetto neighborhood, Jeff. Surprisingly roomy. Plus, the crews improved properties up and down that street. What a transformation!
I wish they’d come to Detroit. Habitat for Humanity has done some work here but the housing stock continues its descent into hell. Soon the entire city will slide into the river, let by the GM Towers.
Detroit and Buffalo share many of the same problems, Patti. If the ratings are good for EXTREME MAKEOVER HOME EDITION: BUFFALO, maybe they’ll consider similar projects in Detroit and Cleveland.
It’s because they have a big network and it’s advertising revenue behind them, plus they use tons of volunteers. I had hoped the government would take up projects like this, but jerk-ass partisan politics kept that from happening, just like health care and banking reform. Grrrr.
You would be amazed at all the work that was accomplished in one week in this tough neighborhood, Rick. I know it’s just a Reality TV show, but EXTREME MAKEOVER HOME EDITION mobilized volunteers and transformed one of the poorest streets in Buffalo. Government has been trying to revitalize Buffalo for decades and all the projects have failed.
Good show. We watched it after the Saints game. And what am impressive family! She’s done a great job with her kids.
Yes, EXTREME MAKEOVER HOME EDITION: BUFFALO was inspirational, Jeff. That woman raised those four kids in basically a shack. She was very deserving of the new home they gave her. And what a difference with the improvements to the other neighborhood houses! Barack should drop HUD and give their budget to EXTREME MAKEOVER if he wants real change.
