I love that cover on Vonnegut’s THE SIRENS OF TITAN, too, Patti. If I’m not mistaken, it’s the DELL First Edition. Worth a few bucks now, I imagine… I may run with your suggestion and do a FIVE FAVORITE PAPERBACK COVERS posting once a month or so. Thanks again for the great idea!
I have very fond memories of Andre Norton’s GALACTIC DERELICT (which is also one of the great SF titles), Drongo. I read it as a kid after reading THE TIME TRADERS. For years, I read every Andre Norton book I could get my hands on. Later, when I learned “Andre Norton” was a woman, it didn’t come as a big surprise. I wasn’t surprised that “James Tiptree, Jr.” was a woman, either.
Well, not ALL of them are cheesecake… only most of them. Why am I not surprised. It’s fascinating to me, how tastes in covers is such a personal thing. I might have to post a favorite (not my MOST favorite cover, I don’t know what that is!) now and then.
The Frazetta cover is on one of the Conan books, right?
I’ll have to dig out my Frazetta art books and track that cover down, Drongo. I picked it because it was without the title and author information cluttering up the cover. Next time I’ll have to be more careful to identify the source material.
I found it, Drongo! The painting is called “Egyptian Queen” and it was the cover for Eerie (Issue 23).
The McGinniss was one of those “James Coburn” covers, right?
You’re right, Jeff. Art Scott could tell us which book this McGinnis artwork is on.
Just checked Art’s McGinniss book (page 48). It’s Wild Midnight Falls by M. E. Chaber, from Paperback Library.
I knew the McGinnis artwork was on a M. E. Chaber book but I forgot which one, Jeff. Thanks for the clarification!
Wow. Really gorgeous. The Vonnegut one is a surprise. I don’t remember reading that book in that cover.

Nice x 5.
My humble choices don’t come close to the wonderful pulp covers on your blog, Evan.
Glad you included the Emsh one. If you saw it on bookstore shelf, how could you not buy it? GALACTIC DERELICT is also one of Norton’s best novels.

I seem to remember the Frazetta cover from one of the LANCER Conans, Rick.
George, I don’t know where the Frazetta originally came from, but I’m pretty certain it wasn’t a Lancer Conan.

Well done, George.
I appreciate an audience that pushes me to excellence, Drongo!
