Diane and I got our flu shots this week. This is the 9th year in a row. Since we’ve been getting flu shots neither of us has had the flu. Before the flu shots, I would catch the flu on a regular basis (I work in a germ factory called a College). My students would cough and sneeze on me and I’d be sick for a week. So far, the flu shot has protected me and Diane. Hope we continue to escape the ravages of the flu!
George, Indians get the flu almost throughout the year, in addition to malaria, dengue and gastro, the scourge of the monsoon season, yet I have never heard of anyone taking flu shots here. Flu is often treated with home remedies unless it’s a serious viral infection that requires medical treatment. My family’s first line of treatment is homoeopathy for most common ailments, be it sinus or stress. It’s effective and has no side effects.
Prashant, American health care revolves around medications and treatments that generated MONEY. Many people here have poor health insurance (or no health insurance) so they use over-the-counter medications (generating billions of dollars in profit for the drug makers). But there is a growing homeopathic movement. The United States spends the most for health care…yet we’re unhealthy.
I got mine a few weeks back.
Randy, the flu vaccine wasn’t available at my doctor’s office until this week. There seem to be some distribution problems this year.
Got mine a few weeks ago. Hope it works!
Bill, the flu shot has protected me all these years. I hope the protection continues.
Is that one of Stilwell’s nurses?
Jeff, I think she’s on a first-name basis with old Steve-o.
The school district provides flu shots free to employees every year, so I got mine a few weeks back. That is my reminder to get my girls their shots (my husband usually finds an excuse to avoid the shot–he hates needles). Last year, I was on steroidal medication and could not get any immunizations during that time, so for the first time in a decade, I didn’t get a flu shot but, worse, I also forgot to get my girls their shots and one of them got it and was wiped out for a week. This year, I’m making sure they get their shots. My husband, however, is on his own!
Deb, I know a lot of people who don’t like needles. But the flu is worse!
We got ours almost a month ago, when they first became available. Do you also get a pneumonia shot every 5 years? We do! I’m due again next year. I had it four years ago and it’s thrice as bad as the flu!
Rick, my shoulder hurt for a week after I got the pneumonia shot!
