You can read all about how Lawrence Block (writing as “Jill Emerson”) came to write Getting Off: A Novel of Sex & Violence at http://pattinase.blogspot.com/2011/09/how-i-came-to-write-this-book-lawrence.html on Patti Abbott’s blog. Hard Case is publishing plenty of older crime novels that appeal to a certain market segment. Getting Off is a hybrid, part crime novel and part sleaze novel from 50 years ago. It works for me. I bet you’ll enjoy Block’s off-beat novel, too.
Loved this one.
I don’t have the original “Jill Emerson” novel, Randy, but this reprint does the job just fine.
I just got a copy of this one yesterday.
Lawrence Block has most of his older work available as ebooks, Jeff. I think this Hard Case hardcover will sell well.
I’ll probably enjoy this one. I certainly enjoy the cover.
GETTING OFF is a bit dated, Drongo. But it’s an good example of the early Block oeuvre.
My god, this book is showing up everywhere…… Has Block suddenly become the most popular author in America? Pfui.
Chalk it up to marketing, Rick.
I’ll have to look for this. I love sleaze.
I suspect Hard Case will be reprinting more “sleaze” if sales of GETTING OFF are strong, Beth.
I’ve been reading the Block short stories featuring this character – see “How I Wrote This Book” by Block on Patti Abbott’s blog recently – and will read the last one before I read the novel.
I like the way Block featured that character in his short stories and then featured her in a sleaze novel, Jeff. The guy is versatile.
Isn’t that your motto, Beth?
😉
Great cover! Worthy as the cover of an edition of Mazes!
Beth: I am shocked, woman. Shocked. What is the younger generation coming to?
Hard Case books have great covers, Stan. I really like most of the McGinnis covers they’ve used.
