The temperatures here are flirting with zero (wind chill -30). So I thought it would be the right time for a review of the new Disney animated movie, Frozen. In a vaguely Scandinavian country, young Princess Elsa has cyrokinetic powers. But after an accident that almost kills her sister, Princess Anna, Elsa withdraws to her room at the castle. Years later, at the Coronation, Elsa freezes EVERYTHING and flees. Anna chases after her. Based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, “The Snow Queen,” there’s plenty of action, music, and clever animation to hold the attention of little kids and adults. Many of my friends who saw Frozen before I did claimed this was their favorite Disney movie. GRADE: A
George, I liked FROZEN a lot, especially for its animation and the music but I felt the story was rather weak. I don’t remember reading “The Snow Queen.”
Can’t wait to see this one George when it open on my side of the pond – sounds great 🙂
Prashant, my favorite Disney movie remains THE LITTLE MERMAID.
Sergio, FROZEN has been the Number One movie in the U.S. for weeks. The audience keeps growing!
We’ll get around to it one of these days. Right now we’re all living it in the Northeast, especially George!
Jeff, it was -5 here last night. We’re at zero right now (but wind chills remain at -30). The persistent winds gust up to 45 mph. Frozen, indeed!
My grandson nixed this as too girly but his parents loved it.
Patti, I didn’t find FROZEN too girly. Plus, Princess Anna is a redhead.
This one has the usual Disney allure, but I was disappointed that the music is a collection of artists doing songs instead of an original music soundtrack.
I’m several Disney films behind at this point, animation features don’t have the same appeal as they once did. That’s just me. George, what? The Little Mermaid? Really? You like it better than Pinocchio? Better than The Lion King?
Rick, you would enjoy FROZEN. But, you’re right about the music.
Of the modern Disney movies I’d go with THE LION KING. But go back to Pinnochio or Snow White or Dumbo for “classic” movies. Modern ones I’d go with the Pixars – UP, WALL-E and Toy Story.
I liked it a lot too, but I thought Tangled was better.
Rick, remember that Ariel is a redhead–and I have a weakness for redheads!

Jeff, I love the Pixars, but I consider them in another category from the Disney animations.
Stan, I’m a fan of TANGLED, too.
