George, we are having more Buffalo or Portland-like weather than you today – mid-60s, overcast with a little drizzle. Not the nicest day for a parade, The summer-like weather returns here tomorrow for a few days.
Jerry, hope you and your family enjoy Columbus Day. We’re going out to a swanky restaurant. My sister is about to head back to her condo in Florida (she’s a Snowbird) so Diane and I decided to take her out to dinner before she leaves.
Rick, Diane went to Ohio to help her sister recover from total knee replacement surgery last week. Diane came home yesterday to do laundry and see STEELY DAN tomorrow. Diane will drive back to Ohio to assist her sister again on Thursday. I’ll be holding the fort until we leave for Boston in a couple weeks and New Orleans a couple weeks after that.

Just returned from Spain. Columbus certainly a significant European figure. Returned from the end of the world!
The Columbo movies appeared early on German TV – I also was a big fan of his!
Have to admit that there were many US detective series on tv which I didn’t like too much, but didn’t watch much tv anyway – preferred to go out to pary (or read a book …).
George, I’m planning to buy some of the old DOCTOR WHO paperbacks from a used bookshop that no really visits anymore.
Prashant, I’ve read a number of DOCTOR WHO novels. The last one I read was written by Alastair Reynolds. You can find my review at: http://georgekelley.org/harvest-of-time-by-alastair-reynolds/
Preshant, there are a zillion and a half Doctor Who books available for free in Internet Archive
Saw Venom. Have to agree with your review. Not awful but forgettable.
Steve, I thought VENOM spent a lot of its time setting up for the next VENOM movie.
So I take it you enjoyed the new Doctor. Good to hear.
Jeff, other than the United Nations of Diversity Companions, I thought the new DOCTOR WHO season got off on a strong start.
I read somewhere that the image of Columbus is tarnished – he must have been a really brutal conqueror.
Still I wish you all a good day – should be Indian summer in Buffalo e g, shouldn’t it?
Wolf, many groups oppose Columbus Day for political reasons. Summer returns today and stays for a few day: 80s and humid! Yuck!

Jeff, you’re welcome to the 80s when they make it to your side of the State. We’ll be back to normal temps this weekend: 60s.
Not sure what Dr. Who has to do with Columbus Day, but whatever. No longer a holiday for many. It’s cool and rainy here, which is what we need.
Rick, I chose DOCTOR WHO because things are “working out.” We’re heading for the 80s for most of this week. I prefer it cooler.
Not being totally PC, I still support Columbus Day while at the same time being pro-Indigenous American Day.
I’ve been very happy with all the recent Doctors and am looking forward to Jodie Whittaker.
Enjoy the holiday, George.

I thought Diane was going to Ohio to help her sister. Now I’m confused. Is Diane going to Florida?

j.padrig, European perspectives vary greatly from the America First politics we’re stuck with now.
Happy Columbo Day!
Rick, I love those early Columbo episodes! Brilliant plots and wonderful actors!

Wolf, in the 1950s and 1960s American TV had dozens of detective shows. Westerns, too. Then, those genres declined.
