Todd, I’m in the final stages of clearing the Computer Room (aka, Patrick’s Bedroom) for next week’s Family Reunion extravaganza. Patrick and Katie will be coming home, Diane’s sister will be sleeping in our Guest Room and 27 people will show up Saturday, September 13 for the catered feast. Lots of labor from now until then…
I know that kind of slog, usually when getting ready to move…Alice and I have lived together for nearly 30 years, but only for the last 13 or so in the Amazing Collapsing House, vs. various apartments and occasional separate ones, for some-month stretches.
Todd, Diane has a dozen pairs of jeans she’s ready to donated to one of our local Thrift Stores. I have over a 100 books ready to go to new homes. Downsizing will help Patrick and Katie down the road when we’re hobbled with age…
Jerry, I’m an indoor guy. I only go outside when I need to. I’ll be moving boxes of books today to clear Patrick’s bedroom for his visit next week. Diane is making a pasta salad and pork chops for dinner today. How about you?
Fred, there seems to be more anger at Trump’s actions. Inflation is moving up, unemployment numbers are moving up, and Covid-19 cases are increasing. Not good signs…
He keeps making his stupidity and hubris ever more obvious.

Yeah, we were discussing the new distant-seeming past, where Jackie would be moaning about the end of summer vacation and the return to the classroom. But those days are over 20 years behind us, and every day is a vacation.
Jeff, Diane would spend much of August getting her classroom ready for Opening Day in September (usually the day after Labor Day). Now, she–like Jackie–can just enjoy the time away from teaching.
Jeff, back when my sisters lived in Western NY, we’d all meet at a park and grill hot dogs and hamburgers. Everyone brought a salad or a dessert. The park had swings and carousels for the kids. Now, everyone is scattered to the winds…

I really miss having an out of doors today but I am taking Josh and Julie out to brunch and then having a dinner at a friend’s house who has a lovely backyard. Thank God for friends.
Patti, sounds like a fun Labor Day for you! There is nothing better than a friend, unless it is a friend with chocolate–Linda Grayson said that and it’s true!
I’m packing for Bouchercon. I leave early tomorrow. Larry’s sick with the flu so I’m using a car service since I’m leaving at 5 am.
We change in Austin and there’s a great BBQ place near the gate. Also a great ice cream place nearby. I’m not looking forward to the heat. Not sure if this will be my last one. Calgary sounds interesting but who knows if US citizens will still be welcome in a year. Ann Smith said she & Jeff will probably go to DC as it’s close for them. I’m leery of going there with the current (lack of ethics) administration.
Hope you enjoyed both the Austin airport food and the flight and all of Bcon…it’s temperate today in NJ and hope that’s true northerly…I think the Canadians are feeling mostly concerned for us, and less likely to risk come down (or over to Alaska).
May it be cheerfully laborious!

Any cookout plans, George?

George, in honor of the day I am going to avoid any labor and take a nap!
Jerry, a nap is on my Agenda, too. But first, I have to clear Patrick’s room of boxes of books and stacks of music CDs…
Happy Labor Day all. May this too survive Trump and Project 2025.

Happy Labor Day to all. It’s just John and me today—no kid at home right now—so we’re grilling some ribs and having spicy slaw as a side dish.
Deb, John’s new car looks great! And ribs with spicy slaw sounds yummy!
Sounds good, Deb. We’re going for burgers and fries, mine with American cheese, mushrooms and grilled onions, Jackie’s plain or with a raw onion.

I don’t labor and I don’t care about Labor Day now that I don’t labor!
Bob, I know you work hard at those casinos!

Maggie, have a safe flight and a fun time in the Big Easy! Say “Hi” to the DAPA folks who show up!

OH…sorry, somehow I was thinking Bcon was in Mass this year.
Todd, if BOUCHERCON was in Massachusetts this year (or any year) Diane and I would probably attend.
