HAPPY THANKSGIVING 2020

Patrick and Katie made the turkey and dinner rolls. Diane made our traditional Jello salad. She also made the gravy and dressing, green salad, and sweet potatoes. I provided the wine. Desserts: apple cake, pecan pie, and pumpkin pie were made by Patrick and Katie.

Diane and I are thankful for Patrick and Katie to be with us to share this special day. Patrick drove across the country from California to be with us. Katie drove from Boston. Both quarantined at their cousin’s condo in Lewiston, NY. Both got Covid-19 tests (both negative) so they could safely be around us. We won the Lottery of Life when we got these two great kids!

Hope you and your family enjoy a Happy Thanksgiving! What’s on your table?

Sounds like you’re being smart and safe. I’m just glad this whole thing is a Democrat Hoax that will go away after the election. Can you imagined the toll in human lives if it were Real?

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Happy Thanksgiving everybody! It’s just the five of us for dinner today. Turkey is brining right now—John will put it on the Big Green Egg shortly where it will cook low and slow until this afternoon. We use Martha Stewart’s tip of covering the breast with a layer of wine-and-melted-butter-infused cheesecloth during the last hour to prevent overcooking. I’m making all our traditional sides—mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, and dressing—along with green bean casserole (which I don’t generally make, but was requested to by one of our daughters). I usually make desserts from scratch, but this year we only got three days, as opposed to the entire week, for Thanksgiving, so I didn’t have time, thus it’s store-bought pumpkin and pecan pies for dessert.

Deb, your Thanksgiving feast sounds delicious! I love creamed spinach and green bean casserole. Patrick and Katie used the Spachcock Technique (removing the turkey’s spine) and brined the turkey in buttermilk overnight. This results in fabulous moist meat and a reduced cooking time (usually 90 minutes instead of four hours). Despite the pandemic, we have a lot to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

My entire meal is ordered from a nice little shop near me. Almost every store has prepared meals to buy this year. I am in awe of how quickly they adapted to what people would want to do, constructing outdoor pavilions overnight. Far too cold not to have heaters and tents and such. Capitalism does have its assets. Have a great holiday all.

Patti, many of our friends ordered Thanksgiving meals from local restaurants. Like you, I marvel at the ingenuity of the cooks and bakers to adapt to these trying times. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I did a big round of contributions last night, mostly to organizations that feed the hungry. Now I feel better.

We’re having turkey breast with gravy, stuffing with chestnuts, roasted potatoes (bought), cauliflower for me and sweet potato souffle for Jackie (also both bought), corn (frozen), cranberry jello mold with walnuts and crushed pineapple, and (sugar-free) chocolate pudding pie with homemade whipped cream for dessert. We will have a couple of days worth of leftovers for most of these, though we usually finish the pie in two days.

This is one of my favorite meals.

Jeff, like you I consider Thanksgiving the best holiday of the year. And, Great Minds Think Alike: Diane wrote out a number of checks to various charities just a few days ago. We’ve sent finance support to the Democratic Senate candidates in Georgia, too. That cranberry jello mold with walnuts and crushed pineapple sounds yummy! Happy Thanksgiving to you and Jackie!

I forgot the wine. When we ordered food on Sunday, it took so long that they gave Jackie a free bottle of wine as an apology.

Jeff, wine is on the menu here, too. Diane prefers White Zinfandel, Patrick and Katie prefer white wine usually Riesling, and I’m partial to Cinzano sparkling wines like Asti Spumante for festive occasions like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve.

Enjoy the day, the meal, and the family, George! You and Diane are very lucky to share the holiday with Patrick and Katie.

Any leftovers can be sent my way.

Also, I hope the gang of stalwart commenters who help make your blog one of my go-to places every day will each have a safe, meaningful, and joyous holiday!

Jerry, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! Many of our friends will be dining alone today because their children can’t quarantine or get tested in time to insure a safe visit. Patrick and Katie put a lot of time and effort into engineering this wonderful Thanksgiving with safety the top consideration. I’m certainly thankful for the gang of stalwart commenters who are the heart and soul of this blog. And you lead the way in stalwartness!

Dear George, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family – and to everybody here!
We have to wait until Xmas for a similar feast but my wife treats every weekend when her young ones come (about once a month) as a big thing where she can show off her cooking and baking.
I just have to be on the lookout – not eating too much of the good stuff.
A turkey would be too much for us so we’ll have a duck – brought from a farm we know.

Wolf, Patrick and Katie opted for spending Thanksgiving with us. But that means they won’t be with us for Christmas. Patrick will probably be in Florida in late December. Katie burned up two weeks of her vacation time to quarantine and spend Thanksgiving with us. Duck is a popular dish for some of our friends at Christmas. Diane prefers ham.

Happy Thanksgiving, George & Family! I hope you have a wonderful day, especially after all the safe effort the kids went to.

We tried an experiment this year, Barbara would plan and prepare Thanksgiving, I will do Christmas. But Barbara couldn’t decide what to have, and the menu changed frequently, and then it was almost time, and then another change, and…well. Meatloaf, rice and steamed green beans. Apple pie (baked from frozen) for dessert. Better than many families can do, I guess.

We’re very thankful for our health, our home, our friends including the many “on-line” ones, especially those here.

Rick, Patrick and Katie planned this visit months ago and took the proper precautions so it would be a safe visit. Patrick driving across the country and Katie burning two weeks of vacation time were costs both kids were willing to pay to make this Thanksgiving visit happen. Diane and I are extremely grateful for their sacrifices to make this day happen! Yes, all of us should be thankful for our health, home, and friends during this pandemic! Happy Thanksgiving to you and Barbara!

Happy and safe Thanksgiving to everyone. I’m staying home, as to avoid a 3 household meal. I have some dark meat turkey, mashed potatoes, a veg to be determine, and (from frozen) key lime pie. Hot tea to drink (Pukka brand which is pricey but our 99c stores had some). I caught a cold about a month ago and still have it. Hopefully new allergy meds will help.

I also sent $$ to the 2 GA democratic candidates for senate. I also sent $$ to the Delaware Humane Assoc., where the Bidens adopted Champ. I went to the store yesterday to get cat and dog food for a food drive (SD Food Bank). There was another charity collecting food, but they wouldn’t take dog or cat food. One of the volunteers said they should because many elderly customers have dogs and cats. The other lady prevailed, so will take to either the SD Food Bank main warehouse or hopefully find another local food drive. (all the ones listed in the paper today seemed to be in No. County). Last year at the half price+ sales, I got about 9 toys, so earlier I picked up a soccer ball and football at target. I’ll also make another donation to meals on wheels, our local humane society and the Library foundation (I’m getting a lot of dvd’s and audios).

Maggie, Happy Thanksgiving! I’m hoping our contributions (and the thousands more) to the Georgia candidates for the Senate make a difference in the result. I’m also shocked at the wide-spread food lines across the country. Things are getting worse!

Turkey TV dinners! I sent all my money to the Republican candidates in Georgia! Doing my bit to prevent a socialist nation!

Get Patrick busy on that discriminatory moderation on my comments, please! I’d like the same treatment as the white folk!

    Have a good day!
