And to you and Diane. Frankly, Valentine’s Day is one of those artificial Hallmark/chocolate/flowers holidays but, as Bill Crider would say, not that there’s anything wrong with that, I guess.

Any plans? We’re going to Cheesecake Factory for lunch, followed by that most romantic of movies (Jackie picked it!), SPOTLIGHT.

Jeff, you and Jackie will like SPOTLIGHT. Not quite a romantic movie, but compelling nonetheless. We plan to attend GUYS & DOLLS where our grand niece has a starring role.

Test–I’ve been unable to post and don’t want to re-input my entire (excellent) comment until I’m sure things are working again.

Perhaps my comment was too long. Long story short: Anniversary is February 11. We had dinner at Muriel’s in the French Quarter Friday night. Today will be a low-key exchange of cards and chocolate (hubby is a Dove Dark Chocolate fiend).

Deb, my wife loves chocolate in all varieties. Dove chocolate is near the top of the list. She really loves chocolate covered raisins! And Happy Anniversary to you!

Happy Valentine’s Day to you and Diane. Celebrate wildly and don’t worry about what the policeman will probably say.

Happy Valentines day to everyone. May you all get your preferred chocolate (dark or milk). My fav is hershey’s special dark or Cadbury’s bourneville, which is (sadly/thankfully?) not exported to the US

Happy Valentine’s Day, to you both, George. Our wedding anniversary (10) is tomorrow, but I’ll be having surgery so not a happy day. I just wish it was all over, though I suspect it will only be the beginning. Raining and dreary here, which is fitting. I’m pretty depressed. I’ll post “Current Reading” tonight, then be off the net for a few days, or longer. I’m trying to read but can’t concentrate.

Rick, Happy Anniversary and Valentine’s Day. Sorry to hear about your medical problems. I’ll be hoping for the best outcomes for you! When I’m down and can’t read, I listen to music.

We are going to see the Michael Moore movie, WHERE TO INVADE NEXT. We have seen everything else! Have a good one, folks and I am hoping Deb will turn up at Bouchercon.

Patti, WHERE TO INVADE NEXT is on our list. 45 YEARS and THE LADY IN THE VAN just opened here. If the weather cooperates, we’ll see them this week.

Dear George, Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your wife and all your family!
And of course to all the people here commenting in such a positive way – from other sites I’m used to reading a lot of negative, often hateful and crazy stuff …

    And on the lighter side:
George, do you know the song “red headed woman” by Bruce Springsteen? he’s one of our favourite rock musicians and afaik also a big Obama supporter.

Re the commercialisation of holidays like this:
This has arrived a long time ago in Europe, first the richer countries like the UK and Germany and now also Hungary (where we live half of the year).
All supermarkets d was course spcial offers – the funniest I found was 1 condoms with different fruity flavours …

    And last not least:
From my own experience and the testimony of Germans who emigrated to the USA (yes, it still happens) I know that Aldi ha a lot of specila things like chocolate, cakes etc – have you tried that?

    PS:
It was really funny when we visited my wife’s nephew near Nashville. When he drove us home from the airport he said suddenly:
I have to do some shopping, if you don’t mind …
And since we like shopping – especially looking at the different offers in the different countries that we visit, we went with him to his favourite supermarket: Aldi

He’s a physicist at Vanderbilt university and he likes the logical way that Aldi has organised its wares – compared to Walmart e g …

Wolf, you contribute to the positive vibe of this blog and I thank you! Plenty of our friends love ALDI, too. We occasionally shop at Wal-Mart but it’s sometimes hard to find anything you’re looking for. And no one is around to help you. But, the prices are good if you can find what you want.

OK, we saw SPOTLIGHT and it was indeed compelling and an important story that needed to be told. It was definitely one of the best movies of the year.

Up next : STAR WARS and THE BIG SHORT.

Jeff, I knew you would like SPOTLIGHT. It was one of my FAVORITE MOVIES OF 2015. You’ll enjoy STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. But THE BIG SHORT will make you mad.

Happy anniversary/Valentine’s day! I have to admit I was hoping for one of your usual pinups to mark the occasion, though!

    Good luck to you, Rick.

I’ve heard good things about Aldi, but we don’t have one near me. I have hopes. We’re getting Gelsons (I think an Los Angeles chain) in place of the failed haggens and fresh & easy. My favorite grocery outlet store has been having lots of F&E brand items very cheap, so I’ve been stocking up.
