HIT & RUN

Diane thought Hit & Run was silly fun. I thought it was just stupid. Dax Shepard plays a guy in the Witness Protection Program. He’s “protected” by Tom Arnold who plays a totally inept U.S. Marshall. Kristen Bell plays Dax’s girlfriend who doesn’t know his criminal past. Kristen Bell has a jealous ex-lover played by Michael Rosenbaum who is pretty much wasted in this film. Kristen Bell gets a job offer in Los Angeles so Dax decides to leave Witness Protection to drive her there. The rest of the movie revolves around how plot points can generate a car chase. Or, a dune buggy chase. Or…you get my drift. Hit & Run is being marketed as an “action comedy.” There’s plenty of phony “action” (the tedious car chases) and very little comedy. You’ve been warned. The reviewers were on your side on this one. No chance I’d see it. Of course Shepherd and Bell are engaged in real life. Let’s see if their relationship survives the reviews.

The puzzling factor about HIT&RUN is that the movie has a talented cast, Jeff. But the whole plot seemed to revolve around stitching chase scenes together. Weak.

Both of them grew up near us in the Detroit area so I was tempted but he’s never been my favorite actor and I am tired of chasing. I think I will see PREMIUM RUSH instead.

Patti, the local theater we like to patronize has brought back BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD so we’re going to try and see that this afternoon.

I like Kristen Bell but she’s never done anything as good as Veronica Mars. We walked out on her movie set in Rome after 20 minutes. I think I’ll just watch another Veronica rerun.

Shepard’s attraction is genuinely lost on me…he’s usually cast as a handsome, witty guy, and I’m afraid I don’t see it at all. But, then, even handsome, witty guys aren’t really that attractive to me, so someone edgily, quirkily so could easily have their glow lost on me. Strikes me as Michael Keaton lite (and a bit chinless). No doubt much more impressive in person.

Bell was also excellent in PARTY DOWN. But, yeah, the roles in FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL and HOUSE OF LIES are thankless, when not actually demeaning, even though she does what can be done with them.
