I WON HQ TRIVIA!

HQ Trivia is a wildly popular live game show that you play on your cell phone (I play on Diane’s iPhone) where you can win a real cash prize every day. Patrick and Katie introduced me to the game almost a year ago and downloaded the free app to Diane’s iPhone. I enjoy trivia games so I played HQ Trivia frequently. The host or hostess asks 12 questions. You have 10 seconds to tap your answer to each question. If you answer all the questions correctly, you win a part of the cash prize. In the game where I was a winner, the cash prize was $5,000! I had made it to the Last Question five times. Four of those times, I picked the Wrong Answer. Frustrating! But this fifth time, I finally got a question in Literature:
What poem did the American poet who helped injured soldiers in the Civil War write?
1. “The Road Not Taken”
2. “I Sing the Body Electric”
3. “Because I Could Not Stop For Death”

I knew the answer was #2: Walt Whitman. That night 350,000 people played HQ Trivia. After 12 questions about 3000 people answered all the questions correctly. All the winners won…$1.35! For me, it’s not about the money, it’s the bragging rights! I WON HQ TRIVIA!

Congrats! I don’t play any games on my phone, but I do like trivia (probably because my brain runs to the trivial). I was a contestant on Jeopardy back in the 1990s. I came in second place. It was back when they were still awarding prices rather than cash to runners-up. I won a bed, dresser, and armoire—which I’m pleased to say we’re still using. I’m sure I would have spent any cash I’d have won by now…but the bedroom set lives on!

Deb, you might consider downloading the free HQ TRIVIA app. Tomorrow night, it will be Disney Trivia Night. I’m sure you know way more about Disney than I do!

Deb, I can’t believe you never mentioned that! I’ve loved Jeopardy since the Art Fleming days, and I watch it most nights, playing along and often – I swear – doing better than the contestants. That is very cool.

Jerry, you have no idea the amount of effort that went into that HQ TRIVIA win! But, it’s fun. On Monday night, HQ TRIVIA gave away $100,000. Where they get all this money, I have no idea.

I only have a flip phone. No downloads. I once won a $100 in a bar trivia contest. I was the only one who knew Donald Duck’s middle name. Bartholomew. Why I knew this I have no idea. I do fairly well when I watch Jeopardy although some categories kill me such as Opera. Couples months ago they had a SF category and none of the contestants knew any of them such as who wrote Dune.,

Steve, you’re right: the categories of the questions are critical. Like you, I get wiped out on Opera questions. I’m a little surprised that none of the JEOPARDY contestants knew Frank Herbert wrote DUNE.

Where does the prize money come from. Advertising? My son and his wife play trivia on TV shows at various sports bars. They have done THE OFFICE, and a few others.

Patti, on Monday night, the prize was $100,000. HQ TRIVIA ran some TARGET ads during the session so I’m guessing TARGET put up the prize money.

Yeah, it must have been one of the games I mentioned was verboten.

Jackie plays a LOT of games on the tablet (mostly). I play a couple on the phone and tablet – Freecell, hearts, stuff like that without money involved.

I did sign up for this and will try the next game – $1,000 at 7 pm.

We used to play Trivial Pursuit (when it was new) and I won most of them time, even against shark game players like my mother. My mind is STUFFED with trivia! And it is on every topic (well, mostly, when Jeopardy does Music of the ’90s or later, I am screwed) and I know at least something about most of them, even opera.

Jeff, as you’re finding out, it’s not easy to win HQ TRIVIA. But when you do… When you earn some EXTRA LIVES that helps keep you in the game with questions like that Bryan Adams one.
