IRON MAN 3 [3D]

I’ve made no secret about my fondness for the Iron Man franchise. When I was a kid reading Marvel Comics, Iron Man was my favorite character (over on the DC side, it was The Flash). When Robert Downey, Jr. was picked to play Tony Stark, the genius but idiosyncratic inventor, I was thrilled. And, when Gwyneth Paltrow (“The World’s Most Beautiful (and Hated) Woman”) was cast as Pepper, my heart did a back-flip! Iron Man 3 is the darkest of the three movies. Tony Stark takes a lot of punishment. Gwyneth gets to wear an Iron Man suit and has an expanded role. The 3D special effects are mind boggling. Iron Man 3 should be one of the biggest grossing movies of the Summer of 2013. I enjoyed Iron Man 3 and you will too! GRADE: A

Once Jackie’s rehab is over this will be on our list. I found IRON MAN 2 a big disappointment but after THE AVENGERS I’m expecting much better from this. I saw a critic predicting a $150 MILLION opening weekend. Robert Downey is going to be even richer than before.

I’ll probably see it eventually, when it hits Netflix. I enjoy flicks like these, but movie theaters are way too expensive. As for Paltrow, she’s pretty, probably not the most beautiful except by People magazine voters, and hated? But she fits the Pepper role perfectly.

George, I liked the previous two IRON MAN films more than this one. I thought Stark was more out of his suit than in it. And I don’t know why directors are portraying our superheroes as being more human than superheroes. For instance, I didn’t see any point in Stark getting anxiety attacks. Besides, I also thought the plot was over the top and Kingsley’s character not very convincing. I agree the special effects were good.

Prashant, Marvel Comics were famous for characters with problems: anger issues, anxiety, lack of confidence, etc. I think IRON MAN 3 is just working in that tradition. I can’t wait for THE AVENGERS 2 which I suspect you’ll enjoy much more.

Glad to see you enjoyed it as much as I did. Easily my favorite of the franchise to this point. RDJ was certainly a perfect casting choice and I feel the same way about Paltrow. I do agree that she is one of the most beautiful, as she has a look that is very natural and even when seen without a lot of make up on she looks pretty. I read an article last night about the reasons she is hated and it all seemed kind of stupid and petty to me. All of us do dumb things and say dumb things, being rich and famous doesn’t preclude one from being human, must means you have a stage to be stupid on where millions will see you and by hypercritical of it. I don’t look to celebs to be my inspiration or my guides to life. I look to them to entertain, and if they do that well then I’m happy for it. That said my daughter and I recently bought the two Paltrow cookbooks for Mary for Mother’s Day because they are lovely books and many of the recipes are things we want to try out.

Carl, I’ve always liked Gwyneth Paltrow. And you’re right about RDJ being a perfect casting choice for Tony Stark. I’ll have to check into those Paltrow cookbooks.
