This is what obsession looks like. I ordered the 2-CD set of Van Morrison’s It’s Too Late To Stop Now, Vol. 1 a few weeks ago. Loved it! You can read my review here. Then AMAZON notified me that there was another box set of Van Morrison’s 1973 concerts in L.A. and London with alternate versions and extras. Three hours of unreleased Van Morrison plus a concert DVD! Of course, I had to have it. I ordered this new box set and it arrived in a couple of days. I’ve been listening to it the past week. It’s a mixed bag. Yes, there are some clunkers. But, if you’re a Van Morrison fan, there’s enough here to delight you. GRADE: B+

Great set. Just wished he would have done Mystic Eyes. Seen him in Chicago at the Guinness Fest about a decade ago. Elvis Costello came out for the encore of Gloria.
Steve, wow! I wish I could have been there! I love Elvis Costello’s “Alison.”
I like Van too, though he is as erratic in concert as Dylan these days – you never know which Van you’ll get.
Domino and Wild Night are my favorites, though I like a lot of his others too.
Jeff, Van Morrison is releasing a new CD of music next week. I’ll be reviewing it soon!
I like a few of his bigger songs, but this would be way over the top for me.
Rick, for Van Morrison fans, this is an embarrassment of riches!
I don’t know why, but all day this post has had me thinking of the Boz Scaggs 1976 album Silk Degrees. I finally had to go play the CD. Now there’s an artist I’d like a compilation of.
Rick, Boz Scaggs performed at a casino near here. I wish I’d gone. Now I have to find MY copy of SILK DEGREES!
A bit OT:
Seems that many pop/rock musicians perform nowadays at casinos in the USA, not only in Vegas.
We almost went to Buffalo/Niagara Falls a few years ago to listen to Steve Winwood, but realised that it would have been to expensive for us …
And of course we like “Van, the Man”!
Wolf, dozens of pop/rock performers show up at our local casinos during the year. And the ticket prices are reasonable. I took my wife and daughter to see Carole King a few years ago. Great concert!
… and so I got one.
Always preferred Boz Scaggs first record. Especially like Loan Me A Dime. Thought he got too bland after Silk Degrees. He also did so good work on the first 2 Steve Miller records (done before Miller got too commercial).
Steve, I still find those early Boz Scaggs records very listenable after all these years.
