Scott Cupp recommended this Young Adult series here. Abigail Rook, a feisty young woman from England, arrives in New Fiddleham (aka, Boston) in 1892. She’s penniless, but persistent. Abigail applies for a job as an assistant to R. A. Jackaby, a detective specializing in “paranormal” investigations. Yes, there are elves, goblins, dragons, and banshees in these adventures. If you’re a fan of magical creatures and Sherlock Holmes-like cases, you’ll enjoy Jacaby and Beastly Bones. GRADE: B (for both)
Pass.
Bob, these books are aimed at the Harry Potter audience.
Thanks George, I’ve been looking for something for my young-adult niece!
Dan, these YA books should appeal to teenage readers. I liked all the magical elements.
The comparison to Carnacki and John SIlence makes them sound appealing.
Jeff, the Jackaby series is working the same side of the street as Carnacki and John Silence. Quick reads!
I wish the DP Y/A reviewer would read books with female protagonists. If he did, I’d seek review copies for him. He’s a “TEENAGER” now, and doesn’t do a lot of reviewing. Busy with friends, school, tennis, etc. sigh
Maggie, Abigail Rook is a smart, clever, and feisty character. An excellent female protagonist!
Hmmm. Maybe. As soon as the TBR runs out of other things. Thanks for the tip.
Rick, thank Scott Cupp who recommended these entertaining adventures to me!
Good, bad, or indifferent, I’ll pass. Too many books now.
