I enjoyed this new movie version of The Jungle Book. We all grew up with the animated version that was a lot of fun. This CGI triumph brings the jungle and its inhabitants onto the big screen without any PETA problems. The characters are voiced by Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong’o, Scarlett Johansson, Giancarlo Esposito and Christopher Walken. Neel Sethi plays Mowgli, the child raised by wolves. Mowgli becomes the target of Shere Khan, the ferocious tiger. Directed by Jon Favreau (of IRON MAN and IRON MAN 2 fame), The Jungle Book delights adults and children alike. I read Kipling’s The Jungle Book and reviewed it here. There are plenty of adventures for Mowgli to take if Disney wants to make some sequels. GRADE: B+
This sounds great. I don’t think I have ever seen the previous version.
Patti, the animated version of THE JUNGLE BOOK has plenty of songs kids (and adults) love. This new live-action version can be scary to younger children because the animals look so real.
It looks like it should be fun. I remember loving one song from the animated version. I think it was “I want to be like you” had a nice beat and could do aerobics to it.
Maggie, you’re right! That’s the song Mowgli and Baloo the Bear sing together as the float down the river together.
Of course there was a much earlier live action version, 1942, starring Sabu as Mowgli. My parents had a vinyl record set of it. Barbara says she might be interested in this one, I’m probably not.
Rick, I think you would find the CGI world of the Jungle very impressive. I really liked the wolf pack.
George, I liked the film too, mainly because it stayed true to the 1967 animated film. I enjoyed it in 3D.
Prashant, I’m amazed that Disney shot THE JUGGLE BOOK in a warehouse in L.A. with green screens. Computer Generated Images software has certainly come a long way!
