I’m sorely tempted to say the Jurassic series is getting long-in-the-tooth. Yes, the Jurassic series has been around for 25 years and the latest installment, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, ratchets up the rampaging dinosaurs factor to hold the attention of jaded audiences. Chris Pratt returns as the dinosaur-whisperer. He joins Bryce Dallas Howard to try to save the giant saurians lurking around the trashed theme park on Isla Nublar when the island’s volcano erupts. Yes, Jeff Goldblum returns for a cameo as chaos theoretician Ian Malcolm (taking a break from analyzing the Trump Administration, perhaps). If you’re looking for a Summer popcorn movie, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom fits the bill. GRADE: B-
About what I expected. I’ll see it this weekend. I still enjoy seeing the dinosaurs. Beats seeing iguanas with horns on their heads being passed off as dinosaurs. Or bad stop motion ala Ray Harryhausen.
Steve, just imagine what Ray Harryhausen could do with today’s CGI technology!
OCEANS 8 was enough bad movies for one week. Phil loved HEREDITARY but not for me.
Patti, Diane and I are going to see WON’T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR? tomorrow.
Sadly, these days there are very few summer blockbusters that tempt us to get out, go to the theater, and pay to see them. I’d rather read a book or watch Netflix or, as we are tonight, go see a live concert. (Tonight is Ultimate Doo-Wop.) I’m hoping SKYSCRAPER is worth seeing, but like this one, it will probably keep for television.
Jeff, I share your opinion about many Summer movies. SKYSCRAPER is not on our list. We’re looking forward to ANT-MAN AND THE WASP.
SO is Jackie. HEREDITARY is a movie I might have seen 50 years ago. Not today.
Jeff, we’re not interested in HEREDITARY. It’s raining here today (we need it!) and more rain is forecast tomorrow. I’m guessing JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM with do great business here this wet weekend!
Skyscraper looks awful. Dwayne Johnson doesn’t have a very good track record. I liked Hereditary. Saw Ry Cooder in Ann Arbor last night. Great show.
Steve, I agree with you on SKYSCRAPER. The trailer looks awful and I got the feeling that I had seen the movie before…several times!
I liked his SAN ANDREAS, but generally I agree.
Jeff, I liked The Rock in the Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
Just saw Jurassic World. B- is about right. Story was a bit contrived. Surprised you liked Jumanji. On my worst list of the last few years. D-.
Steve, I’ll watch anything with Karen Gillan in it!
You gave it a lower score than the other critics I’ve seen. I’ll probably rent it when it comes around.
Rick, I’ve seen all the JURASSIC movies over the years. JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM is a Summer popcorn movie, nothing more.
Ray Harryhausen was an artist and innovator who created great special effects considering the limitations of the technology of the day!
Bob, I grew up loving Ray Harryhausen’s stop-action magic!
I KNEW you’d get to Jurassic World on its opening weekend!
It has dinosaurs! Where’s the bad?
Joe and I will probably see it next week after the crowds thin out. The theaters here were packed last weekend with cars parked out on the road.
Beth, maybe I’m suffering from dinosaur fatigue!
