KANSAS CITY CHIEFS VS. BUFFALO BILLS

The 5-3 Kansas City Chiefs take on the 5-3 Buffalo Bills in a “make-or-break” game. A loss will damage either team’s Playoff chances. The Bills have injuries to two key offensive players. Running back Fred Jackson and rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins may not play today because of pulled “groins.” Ouch! How will your favorite NFL team do today?

Count the Jets out before the game even starts. The Panthers play Monday night. Philadelphia will probably win. The ‘Skins will likely take down Tampa, but nothing is certain.

Randy, you’re right about nothing being certain in the NFL. I was surprised by the ease Cleveland showed beating Cincinnati on Thursday night.

Don’t remind me. The Giants’ chances of winning in Seattle are slim at best. Looks like another lost season.

The Texans have a bye, which means they won’t lose today. They won’t win, either, but they usually don’t do that, anyway. Dallas is in London to play the Jaguars. I have no idea why the NFL plays in London.

Bill, the Bills will be playing the Jaguars next year in London. All NFL teams are required to play a game in London, but I have no idea why. I can’t imagine the NFL having a team in England.

Brits neither like nor understand American “football”; I suspect most go to watch the game for the novelty of something called “football” in which there are only specific times a foot can be in contact with the ball. But I’d guess the majority of the tickets are purchased by ex-pats looking for a taste of home. Ah, Roger Goodell, will you ever stop with your futile quest to push American football on a resistant Europe? Well, I guess you gotta spend that extra billion or so you have hanging around somewhere!

The 4-4 Saints (riding high in the NFC South*) meet San Francisco in the Superdome today. Nothing is certain, but the Saints generally play well at home and have won their last 9 (?) home games. I’m hoping the 49ers don’t break that streak.

(*Much as Larry, with two C’s, a D, and an F, led the Delta House Pledge Class in “Animal House”.)

Deb, this NFL season holds a number of surprises. Before the season began, everyone was picking the Seahawks to return to the Super Bowl. The Giants and 49ers were projected to be Playoff teams. The Arizona Cardinals were on no one’s radar.

I know there are a lot of British fans of American football but I agree, this is idiotic. But then, I think it’s idiotic making Major League Baseball teams start their season in Japan.

George, the NFL Players Assn. should be outraged that the NFL – and the media – have thrown out the basis for our judicial system: that a person is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law (which is not the Commissioner’s Office, but a real court of law. I don’t like what those people (almost certainly) did one bit, but it’s all heresay (even the video of Rice) evidence at this point. When a judge says “Guilty as charged”, then the punishments can begin.

Deb, the NY Times is picking the 49ers to win so the Saints are probably safe.

Granted, my friend in England who likes and watches football has American ties and has been here many times.

Bummer for the Bills, and especially for the Saints. But what happened with the Jets and Steelers. I guess Bieber going to the Steelers’ prayer meeting on Saturday really was the jinx. The Giants looked good early but trail in the fourth quarter, as expected.

Does anyone remember the European football league and teams? The league went belly up but apparently someone thinks it’s a good idea to have our football in Europe. I think they’re ripe for the Lingerie League since they’re not as fussy as the US about garments being ripped away.
