Knight and Day basically knits together one chase scene after another. The plot is ludicrous. So why am I giving this movie a mild recommendation? Well, the stunts explode off the screen. When you watch the credits, you’ll see a page of names under STUNTS. And those folks earned their money. There are car chases, motorcycle chases, bull chases, and fireworks with helicopters and jets. This a Big Budget movie with two Big Names (though not as big as they used to be), Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. No chemistry between them, but the action pacing is so quick there isn’t enough time for much hanky-panky. If you’re in the mood for a mindless action movie, Knight and Day fits the bill. GRADE: B-
Go see Inception–and then explain it to me.
INCEPTION’s reviews have been very mixed, Patti. People seem to love it or hate it. I’ll try to see it in a few days.
I’m afraid I have no interest and it is because of the leads.
The producers could have plugged any couple into the leads, David. KNIGHT AND DAY is that generic.
Ditto, David.
Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz try to be a cute couple, Jeff, but there’s no magic between them.
I have no interest in this movie–having never been a Tom Cruise fan, even before some of his odder (e.g., couch-jumping) antics. When we first saw the ads for this movie, my husband said, “He plays someone named Knight and she plays someone named Day–and that’s about as much plot as you’re going to get.” I think he hit it right on the mark there!
Your husband grasped the premise of KNIGHT AND DAY thoroughly, Deb. Other than the amazing stunts, there’s nothing else to recommend it.
Time for me to make my obigatory BOYCOTT CRUISE announcement. Him and every other $cientology Crime Family jackass. Support them, support their horrible cult.
Clearly, the boycott is working, Bob. The theater we saw KNIGHT AND DAY in was almost empty. Cruise’s last few movies have bombed.
Yeah, but what about “Battlefield Earth” and all the other John Travolta hits? Oh….
The Scientology organization apparently has a specific suck-up-to-celebrities operation which results in them getting sorts of endorsement by Cruise, Travolta and similar somewhat empty-headed Big Names.
As for “Knight and Day”, the review pretty much scored. I still don’t mind looking at Cameron Diaz, though it’s hard to understand how she can both be dazzlingly beautiful and yet somehow resemble a frog….
I’ve never found Cameron Diaz attractive, Karl. Her popularity mystifies me. But after the debacle of KNIGHT AND DAY, I’m sure her stock is falling in Hollywood.
The unfortunate fate of many actresses who simply live too long, with a few exceptions, some of whom get into serious love affairs with the surgeon’s knife. (Merciful heavens, thank you for Holly Hunter on “Saving Grace”. At least to me she looked natural — all over. Don’t think she used a body double for her numerous out-of-clothes scenes.)
I love Holly Hunter, Karl. But some of the surgically modified actors (of both genders) creep me out.
