We finally saw Kung Fu Panda 3 at the cheap theater. This animated adventure came out a couple months ago and did decent business in the dead of Winter. The first Kung Fu Panda movie was fun as Po, the only panda in a Chinese village, learns he has a much larger destiny. The second Kung Fu Panda movie gave the audience more action and adventure. This third episode in the Kung Fu Panda franchise features Po facing an enemy from the Spirit World. Po has to learn who he truly is in order to confront the threat. I found this weighty story a bit dull and tedious. Jack Black voices Po, Other characters are voiced by: Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, J. K. Simmons, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, Seth Rogen, David Cross, Bryan Cranston, Kate Hudson, James Hong, and Jean-Claude Van Damme. GRADE: B-
I’d have said I am very unlikely to see this one, but the trailer was surprisingly amusing. Maybe when it gets to HBO or another outlet.
By the way, I wasn’t surprised by the Final Four winners, but the Villanova blowout was amazing.
Jeff, we liked KUNG FU PANDA 1 & 2. But this third episode wasn’t up to their lofty standards. As a wise man once said, “Good, but not great.”
Why do you – and everyone – list the names of the voice actors for animated features? They make no difference to the film.
Rick, I disagree. Jack Black, who voices Po the panda, does a terrific job. And the Kung Fu Panda movies have done very well in China.
I’ve only seen the first one, and mildly enjoyed that one. I’d only see this on hbo or starz, and since i have netflix one at a time dvd, wouldn’t do it there.
I like knowing who the actors are in animated movies. What I sometimes do is put up imdb up on the computer with the movies cast and crew so I can look up easily voices that sound familiar but i can’t place.
Maggie, I loved Hugh Laurie’s voicing of Dr. Cockroach, PhD. in MONSTERS VS. ALIENS.
