Okay, I know that Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs in the new remastered version isn’t coming out until April, but I figured I’d give you a heads-up early. Eric Clapton’s most famous song and plenty of extra goodies would be reason enough to buy this 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition. AMAZON already has previews of all the songs on both disks so you can sample what’s going to be released April 26th. I can’t wait!
Here’s the promotional listing of what’s going to be included:
* Six exciting performances from what was to be Derek and the Dominos’ second album, all remixed by the original session engineer, Andy Johns. The highlight of the six tracks is “Got To Get Better In A Little While” – the group’s last recording – presented in this collection both as a mesmerizing jam version and as the first-ever release of the fully produced studio version, finally completed by founding member Bobby Whitlock on keyboards and vocals.
* All four audio performances from Derek and the Domino’s sole, historic television appearance on The Johnny Cash Show, November 9, 1970 – including Clapton’s famous jam on “Matchbox Blues” with Cash and rockabilly legend Carl Perkins.
* The two tracks produced by Phil Spector in early summer 1970 that amounted to the first release by Derek and the Dominos: “Tell the Truth” and “Roll It Over,” the A- and B-side of a single that was quickly pulled from circulation by the group.
* The Layla session out-take “Mean Old World”: the legendary acoustic duet performed by Eric Clapton and Duane Allman.

I had this on vinyl, back in the day, and it’s hard to believe that “Layla” (or Eric Clapton) would ever qualify as “forgotten,” but sic transit gloria, etc. This will be on hubby’s wish list for Father’s Day, I’m betting on it!
LAYLA AND OTHER ASSORTED LOVE SONGS is on my Wish List right now, Deb! Like you, I owned the vinyl version. But this new 2-CD edition with addition material is a must-buy for Clapton fans!
Great stuff. I listened to “Layla” (the single version) yesterday in honor of Clapton’s birthday.
Amazing, I did the same thing, Bill! Great minds think alike! It’s hard to believe Eric Clapton is 68.
One of my all-time favorite albums, and I have the first CD version that was released, playing it right now. I’m not a huge fan of out takes, redubs, alternate tracks, jams and such as a rule. These might be entertaining, or not, no way to tell. How much are they going to ask for this, in hard copy?
I find that sometimes these remastered songs are so tricked-up that they just don’t sound “right”. Know what I mean?
Yes, I’ve been burned by “remastered” CDs, Rick. Some have been so remastered, they’ve taken all the energy out of the music. You can go to AMAZON and listen to samples from this 40th Anniversary CD set. They sound pretty good to me!
Now you’re on my side, George. Clapton is a master guitarist and he has a lot of great songs in his trunk. I’ll keep an eye out for this one.
I have a friend who’s seen Clapton perform nine times, Bob. He tells me, “Eric Clapton is God.” The release date for this 2-CD set is April 26.
Eric Clapton is God was a pretty common graffito back in the mid ’60s in the UK…
I’m willing to concede that Clapton is one of the best guitarists in the world, Todd. But…God, I don’t think so.
And, just “Matchbox” for the Perkins song, not so much “Matchbox Blues”…was just listening to the Yardbirds album I gave to Alice the other month, the other month, and boy it took me back. I’ll need the new set, too, even though I never loved D&TD as much.
I’ve already ordered my copy, Todd.
This album is hardly forgotten. It’s one of the most famous albums in rock history.
Yes, Charlie, LAYLA is famous. But much of what’s going to be on this new 2-CD version hasn’t been heard in 40 years so I’m counting those songs as “forgotten.”
