LIVE AT THE TROUBADOUR By Carole King & James Taylor [CD/DVD]

Nostalgia is the prime reason for this CD. Carole King has toured several times playing her classic hits. James Taylor did the same thing. Now, they joined forces and present an entertaining evening of music and fun. Despite her wonderful song-writing skills, I’ve never been fond of Carole King’s voice. Same with James Taylor. But having these great songs song by both singers or King and Taylor alternating, makes for a satisfying experience. We’ve seen them both in concert – Taylor several times – and will see them together in mid-June at MSG.

King remains one of the greatest songwriters of the rock & roll era, and Taylor isn’t too bad either.

I’ve been trying to talk Diane into seeing King & Taylor’s REUNION tour, but she’s resisting. We just saw Carole King in concert at one of the Canadian casinos a couple years ago. She was very good.

I have the Legend album by Taylor (I think that’s the title) and it’s fine, but honestly he did about five or six songs that I like and I can skip the rest. As for King, maybe a couple. I’d rather just pick the favorites off iTunes than buy the CD.

I find it hard to listen to Carole King and James Taylor sing for long periods of time, Rick. I can take them in small doses. Their voices grate on me.

There’s no doubt that Carole King and James Taylor are great song writers, Patti. I just get “ear fatigue” listening to them sing for long periods of time. It’s probably just me.
