I loved the first two Mad Max movies. The third movie, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome was a colossal disappointment. Mad Max: Fury Road harkens back to the early Mad Max movies set in a bleak post-apocalyptic world where life is nasty, brutish, and short. Tom Hardy plays Mad Max and he manages to be both violent and sympathetic. Charlize Theron looks beautiful even with her shaved head. If you’re a fan of this series, you’ll be delighted by Mad Max: Fury Road with it’s unrelenting action and explosions. GRADE: A
George, I loved the first two MAD MAX movies too. I think there were two more in the series but I don’t remember either. The films and Mel Gibson were a big hit in India. Given his appearance Tom Hardy should do justice to the role.
Prashant, Tom Hardy is terrific in MAD MAX: FURY ROAD. But the women steal the movie!
THE ROAD WARRIOR was the best of the earlier trilogy. This may wait because Jackie is not a fan and doesn’t want to see it.
Jeff, this movie has strong (and I mean STRONG) women characters. I think you and Jackie will be pleasantly surprised.
Given that there is nothing else to see, we will probably go today. We need to take a break from unpacking. Action movies are my least favorite genre.
Patti, MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is a feminist movie in disguise. I can’t wait to read your review of it!
Patti, Jackie suggests you go see I’LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS with Blythe Danner instead. Or hasn’t it opened there yet?
Not here yet. Only NY and LA.
Loved Mad Max:Fury Road. Lives up to the hype. Saw I’ll See You In My Dreams. Reminded me of a Lifetime Channel movie. Far From the Maddening Crowd is a better option.
Steve, FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD is on our list to See Real Soon. I’ll go see anything with Blythe Danner in it, but I’ll wait until it hits our local $3 cinema.
You should also check out Ex Machina.
I can’t see the appeal of these movies, so no, I won’t be going, regardless of who is acting or shaving head or smashing cars in the desert. And Patti (and George) you would rather see this than FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD? Really?
Rick, apples and oranges. MAD MAX: FURY ROAD fulfills my need for action. FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD will probably make me cry. I’ve read Thomas Hardy’s novels and none of them have Happy Endings.
Saw FAR FROM and didn’t much like it.
Patti, I’ve read mixed reviews of FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD. It’s not one of my favorite Thomas Hardy novels, either.
I saw the Julie Christie version and have no interest in the new one.
Jeff, anything based on Thomas Hardy’s novels is going to be grim.
Steve, EX MACHINA is on my See Real Soon list.
