After The Closer morphed into Major Crimes, I wasn’t sure the new series could hold its audience. But the audience loyal to the team stayed with the series and this third season was the result. There are several dramatic subplots to augment the weekly crimes. Sharon (Mary McDonnell) wants to adopt Rusty (Graham Patrick Martin). Her family isn’t cooperative. Fitz (Jon Tenney) was having a heart attack in last week’s last episode. I’m sure tonight’s cliffhanger episode will expand on that. Fitz is also retiring from the FBI and about to join the LAPD…if he doesn’t get killed off by that pesky heart attack. Sanchez (Raymond Cruz) was shot. Amy Sykes (Kearran Giovanni) is dating an undercover detective. There’s a lot going on. TNT announced they’re renewing Major Crimes for a Fourth Season. That’s wonderful news!
Never seen an epidode of THE CLOSER, but have enjoyed this one. Glad to see it renewed.
Randy, sometimes TNT airs some MAJOR CRIME episodes around Christmas. Usually they’re more humorous.
I agree with you, George, this has grown on us considerably since it spun off from The Closer and this was probably the strongest series yet. There have been some very dark and ugly murders and they’ve handled those well, yet they’ve still managed the occasional goofy Provenza and Flynn comic episode.
I know the ending was dramatic last week but wouldn’t it have made more sense for Fritz to take the aspirin there rather than risking his life by walking down the stairs alone in hopes of keeping his heart attack a secret?
Jeff, Diane guessed that Jon Tenny’s character was having a heart attack early in the episode when he was complaining about shoulder and left arm pain. We enjoy the goofy Provenza and Flynn comic episodes, too. We wish there were more of them.
Sorry I didn’t stay with it. I incorrectly assumed it had run its course with the team here.
Patti, it’s rare that a spin-off succeeds to the extent MAJOR CRIMES has.
Jackie didn’t notice that but I immediately said “heart attack” when he was having arm pains. Diane and I should set up in practice!
Jeff, you and Diane picked up on those heart attack symptoms fast! I didn’t think Jon Tenny’s character had heart problems. Wouldn’t the FBI monitor his health better than that?
In real life, probably yes. But this is television and they need “drama” so no.
Jeff, I’ll be interested to see how this heart attack sub-plot affects the MAJOR CRIMES team. They can’t keep it a secret, can they?
