Disney’s purchase of Marvel for $4 billion means we’ll be seeing more marketing of Marvel’s huge backlist. Last week, X-Men: Volume 3 and Volume 4 were released. Best Buy had them on sale for $14.99 ($5 off if you bought both volumes). These animated programs follow the comics closely. If you’re a fan of the series, you’ll want these before Disney “puts them in the vault” as they are annoyingly prone to do, taking them out of circulation for five or more years. The women superheroes–Storm, Jean Grey, Rogue, Jubilee, etc.–are prominent and powerful.
The idea of putting things in the vault might have made sense in the past, but now it means that people will sell them to each other on various sites and Disney will miss that revenue. Those days of building up demand are past. IMHO
I feel the same way you do, Patti. But THE LITTLE MERMAID is in the vault as well as THE SCARECROW series. Disney’s attempts to manipulate demand for their products are annoying.
I agree with you, Patti.
I’ve never been much of an X-Men fan. With Marvel, I liked Fantastic Four best. Most of my favorites are over at DC: Batman, Green Lantern, Justice League, etc.
I wouldn’t put it past Disney to buy DC, too, Rick. They seem to want to control anything kids (or adults who act like kids) are interested in. I don’t know how Disney managed not to buy the rights to the Harry Potter series.
I thought Warner was in the process of buying Warner. No?
I meant Warner in the process of buying DC. Sheesh, where is my head today?
By the way, I watched Miracle at St. Ana yesterday, and would give it a C- at best.
Sometimes movies open and close in a week because they suck, Rick.
I wouldn’t give Best Buy the sweat off my scrotum. Just saying.
I’ve had several friends run into trouble with BEST BUY when they tried to collect on warrantees and guarantees, Bob. BEST BUY seems more arrogant since CIRCUIT CITY folded.
