If you’re a fan of Sixties music, you’ll enjoy Mayer Hawthorne’s A Strange Arrangment. Mayer Hawthorne has created a faux-Motown CD with songs that are clever imitations of his favorite song-writers: Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes, Leroy Hutson, Mike Terry, Barry White, Smokey Robinson and Lamont Dozier, Brian Holland, and Edward Holland, Jr. It’s a fun CD to listen to. Mayer Hawthorne is from Ann Arbor, Patti. He’s practically your neighbor. You’ll get a kick out of his music!
Never heard of the guy before but you’re right – he totally nailed the Motown sound.
The NY TIMES MAGAZINE had an article on Mayer Hawthorne a few weeks ago, Jeff. That’s how I learned about him. After reading about his passion for Motown music, I bought his CD and enjoyed it. Glad you liked it, too!
Not bad, better without the silly video, but it was easy to scroll away from it. Thanks for the tip.
Mayer Hawthorne’s CD is filled with bouncy music, Rick. I’m happy you enjoyed the song I sampled from it.
I’m listening on Rhapsody now. There’s also an instrumental version of of the CD.
I’ll have to check out that instrumental version of A STRANGE ARRANGEMENT, Bill. Thanks for the heads-up!
Thanks for this, George. A fun song by a singer new to me.
I like the video, but it leaves me confused. I can’t decide whether I’m more attracted to the girls–or the house.
I like both, Drongo.
