The Million Dollar Quartet consists of Elvis, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash. We have tickets tonight at Sheas Performing Arts Center to see the traveling version of this hit Broadway play. Based on a Sun Records recording session, the music in this musical should be great!

I’ll be here vwishing I was there. J guess there will be Sun on my music player today
Last week I was listening the Chris Issak’s fine tribute to Sun Records, Scott. Now I’ll enjoy the musical version. If MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET shows up in your neighbood, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it, too!
Enjoy! Sounds great.
Chris Isaak’s BEYOND THE SUN got me in the mood last week, Patti. This musical about Sun Records has gotten good reviews.
We saw it on Broadway earlier this year – pretty good show. We didn’t see the original performers so I can’t judge that, but they did a pretty decent job with the impressions (the guy playing Johnny Cash, for example, looked nothing like him but his voice was similar). The part I found most interesting was the portrayal of Carl Perkins, who I knew the least about.
Enjoy.
I don’t know much about Carl Perkins, either, Jeff. But I think only Jerry Lee Lewis is the only member of the “Million Dollar Quartet” still alive.
He is. We almost got to see him do an appearance at the end of the show but were unable to get tickets for that performance. Even though Elvis was the biggest star (and was already huge then), Jerry Lee was the central, most dynamic figure here, as he was in the real recording session. I can understand why the guy playing the role (Levi Kreis) won the Tony.
I find it amazing that Sun Records had Elvis, Perkins, Cash, and Lewis, Jeff. And, later, Roy Orbison. Amazing talents!
Man, what a grouping!
The musical sounds like a lot of fun and I hope you have good seats and thoroughly enjoy yourselves!
Yes, Carl, we have good seats. But there really aren’t an bad seats in Sheas. We bought the Season Ticket package this year.
Have fun, George. I’ll listen to the Isaak again today (as I did yesterday, and just about every day since I got it after your post).
Glad you’re enjoying Chris Isaak’s music, Rick. I’m still listening to Mayer Hawthorne’s HOW DO YOU DO. Addictive music!
