NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS VS. BUFFALO BILLS

Last year at this time, the Bills pulled off an enormous upset over the New England Patriots. The Patriots had a 21-0 lead and suddenly the Bills woke up and began making plays. The Patriots had a 15-game winning streak over the hapless Bills. But not this day. The Bills came back and beat the Patriots 34-31. What is going to happen today? Your guess is as good as mine. The Bills are 2-1, the Patriots are 1-2 and angry. If the Bills are going to make the playoffs this year, they need to beat some Good Teams. This game is a good place to start. What’s happening with your favorite NFL team?

I hardly want to comment about the 0-and-3 Saints…local media here is already calling them the “Ain’ts” in reference to their nickname in the days before Breese and the Super Bowl. Today’s game with Green Bay is an absolute must-win if the Saints have any hope of salvaging the season (and even then it’s a long shot–very few teams make the post season after starting 0-3). Of course, the Packers will be similarly riled up after last week’s debacle of a game. All in all, I think the Saints are figuring this will be a lost season and next year, when they get Sean Peyton back, things are bound to be better.

Yes, you’re right about that Playoff math, Deb. A slow start means the team has to “run the table” later in the schedule to have a winning record and a Playoff chance. But “running the table” rarely happens in the NFL.

The Saints are my #1 surprise this year, Deb. I’ll be rooting for them today.

Giants play tonight in Philly. The Eagles could easily be 0-3 instead of 2-1. Their weaknesses were all exposed last week so I’m hoping the Giants are awake, especially with the 49ers coming up soon.

After Michael Vick predicted a “dynasty” for the Eagles, I knew Reality would bite them, Jeff. The Giants may be the best team in the NFC. Of course, the 49ers (and their fans) would disagree.

I knew the Bills would win last week. This week…maybe not. I think the Pats are going to play a very good game and overwhelm your boys, George. As you you say, New England is angry.

The Broncos should win today. They certainly need a victory today. (I’ve always kinda liked Carson Palmer, but he was a lot more likeable when he Bengal and we didn’t have to play him twice a year.)

New Orleans had a rather lively offseason, and they don’t seem to have handled events as well as one might have hoped. I think Brees and his crew can turn things around today. The Saints still have a fair number of talented players on their roster.

The Bills have this annoying habit of blowing leads, Drongo. Last year, the Bills had a 21-0 lead over the Patriots in Foxboro…and then gave up the next 49 points to the Pats. Today, the Bills led 21-7 in the 3rd quarter…and managed to lose the game 52-28. Congratulations on the win over Oakland. New Orleans fought bravely, but remains winless.

I guess the Bills got clobbered, George, but then so did the pathetic Jets, who suffered another major injury to boot. I can’t understand how Arizona can win in New England yet are losing to Miami.

I’m sure your local sports talk radio guys will be citing statistics about the chances of a 0-4 team making the Playoffs, Deb. A couple years ago, the Bills started the season by going 0-8. Not a fun experience.

George, the Bills need to learn how to finish.

Deb, don’t pull out the paper bags until they are 0-8, at least. They are a wounded team both physically and mentally/spiritually, so they should get some slack. There have been a lot of surprises this season, good teams gone down, fair teams winning (Cardinals).

The less said about the Seahawks, the better. They gave that game away.

I’m getting pretty burned out on footballs already. I watched half a college game Saturday (I usually watch 2 or 3) and half of the Seattle game yesterday. On the other hand, I’ve been feeling under the weather (witness my lack of blog posts).

Hope you’re feeling better, Rick! We’re going to miss you at BOUCHERCON. I’ll be sure to send you a CARE package of BOUCHERCON goodies when we return home. The lowly Bills face the mighty 49ers on Sunday. Yikes!
