This was our 28-year-old uninsulated garage door. Last winter, this old garage door froze on the inside! We knew we had to replace it.
This is our new insulated garage door (with its new garage door opener: very quiet!). And Diane went with “Sunrise” windows! More stimulating the Economy!
Either one looks better than mine. Tree roots have buckled the garage floor so the door doesn’t sit flat. I hate trees near the house.
Bob, I totally agree! We’ve had three trees removed that were too close to the house. I don’t understand why people plant trees that close to buildings. Sure, they start out small, but they GROW!
Yes–very nice. When we replaced our garage door a few years back, I definitely wanted one with windows (although I just got square panes of glass, not the “sunrise” effect). It’s amazing how much light gets into the garage with those few square inches of glass.
Deb, our old garage door was solid and blocked all the light. The inside of our garage looked like a cave when the garage door was down. But now, with the windows, light pours in and everything is brighter!
One side of our garage has a wrought iron gate. Can’t wait to see what happens with leaves and snow.
Patti, most of our leaves blow into our neighbors’s yards.
I keep backing into the garage door. I need to open it more often.
Bill, I haven’t gotten to that point yet.
Nice! I can only imagine how dark it looked in there in January and February in Western New York. Looking good.
Glad to see Diane is still stimulating the economy. Jackie is the same.
Jeff, Diane picked out the new garage door and windows. I just wanted a new garage door that was insulated. The Polar Vortex really did a number on the old garage door last Winter!
George, don’t you have heating and A/C in your garage? (Just joking)
I remember my surprise many years ago when we were invited by an elderly Arizonian to his house (his wife was from Germany and he thought it was a nice surprise for her to be able to converse with someone in German again …) and he showed us the A/C in his garage …
How cold did it get last winter and were roads closed for a longer time?
Wolf, we got to -22 below zero Fahrenheit (-40 wind chill) last Winter. Frost formed in the inside of our old garage door that made it difficult to open. I had to go out in my parka and “assist” the garage door when my wife pushed the “Lift” button. I didn’t want to do that again this Winter so a new garage door and opener became priorities.
I’m sure you did research, what brand is your new door? Looks nice.
Rick, we went with an AMARR garage door in their Olympus Collection. The new garage door opener is the top-of-the-line Lift-Master Premium Series.
Very nice, George.
Our winters aren’t quite that cold but I can see the appeal of insulated garage doors.
Beth, it’s a lot harder to lift a garage door that’s caked in ice than one that’s nice and toasty!
