The off-season for the Buffalo Bills, after losing in the NFL Playoffs for the third year in a row, features upheaval and change. Wide receiver Stefon Diggs was traded to the Houston Texans. DE Leonard Floyd–who had 10 sacks for the Bills last season–opted to sign with the 49ers. And WR Gabe Davis is headed to Jacksonville as a free agent. Other notable cuts: CB Tre’Davious White (injury), C Mitch Morse (salary cap), and WR Deonte Harty, S Jordan Poyer (too old). DB Siran Neal headed for Miami.
Bills General Manager Brandon Beane surprised Bills fans by moving out of #28 in the First Round to #32. Then, Beane moved back again to #33–the first pick in the Second Round. That’s when he drafted Keon Coleman.
The Bills made the following draft picks in the 2024 NFL Draft:
- Round 2: WR Keon Coleman, Florida State, No. 33 overall (from Panthers)
- Round 2: S Cole Bishop, Utah, No. 60
- Round 3: DT DeWayne Carter, Duke, No. 95 (from Chiefs)
- Round 4: RB Ray Davis, Kentucky, No. 128
- Round 5: C/G Sedrick Van Pran-Granger, Georgia, No. 141 (from Panthers)
- Round 5: LB Edefuan Ulofoshio, Washington, No. 160 (from Packers)
- Round 5: DE Javon Solomon, Troy, No. 168
- Round 6: T Tylan Grable, UCF, No. 204
- Round 6: CB Daequan Hardy, Penn State, No. 219
- Round 7: G Travis Clayton, International Player Pathway, No. 221 (from Chiefs)
Hopefully, these draft picks will help rebuild the Bills. How did your favorite NFL team do in the Draft?
While I enjoy watching the game I have no interest in the draft! Half of the players drafted will never play more than a few games and teams that toss away too many veterans are headed for the cellar! Of course, I could be wrong!
Bob, NFL players have a short shelf life. And, the risk of injury is daunting.
I heard a retired player talking once and he said if you played for two years you were eligible for a pension! Probably a small one, but it’s something!
Bob, sadly, many “retired” NFL players tend to burn through their money and struggle financially.
Round 1, Pick 24 — CB Terrion Arnold
Round 2, Pick 61 overall — CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
Round 4, Pick 126 overall — OT Giovanni Manu
Round 4, Pick 132 overall — RB/S Sione Vaki
Round 6, Pick 189 overall — DT Mekhi Wingo
Round 6, Pick 210 overall – G Christian Mahogany
Patti, looks like the Lions filled some needs for next season!
The Giants need a QB. They didn’t get one. They’re in deep trouble.
1 – Malike Nabors WR LSU – obviously a great player, but they need a QB
2 – Tyler Nubin Safety Minnesota
3 – Andru Phillips Cornerback Kentucky
4 – Theo Johnson WR Penn State
5 – Tyrone Tracy, Jr. RB Purdue
They need a lot more help than they got.
Jeff, I was surprised the Giants didn’t draft a QB at #6 in the First Round. The Patriots drafted TWO QBs! Maybe the Giants will trade for a QB over the summer.
The Ravens — who always draft well — had a solid but unspectacular draft. They lost a lot of veterans over the postseason, so they had many holes to fill. The draft addressed some of this, but there’s more work to be done.
The college team I follow, the Oregon Ducks, set a school record with eight players selected.
Funny you should be a Ducks fan. An Oregon friend keeps telling me why I’m supposed to dislike them but I keep forgetting what it is. Maybe George Soros buys their uniforms. I see a lot of their games on the Game in 60 Minutes broadcasts and only root for them if they play a team outside the PNW.
Bob, if it walks like a Duck, and quacks like a Duck…
Jeff, you’re right: the Ravens always draft well. One of the ESPN commentators this morning claimed the Steelers–in your division–had the best draft in the AFC. He also claimed the Cardinals had the best draft in the NFC.
