NFL WILD CARD WEEKEND, PART 3: PITTSBURGH STEELERS VS. BUFFALO BILLS (CBS) and PHILADELPHIA EAGLES VS. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS [ABC & ESPN]

The Steelers vs. Bills game was moved to Monday due to a Lake Effect snowstorm that dumped three feet of snow on parts of Western NY. High winds whipped up the snow causing white-out conditions. The temperature at game-time is predicted to be 16 degrees–windchill temp 0 degrees.

The weather conditions will dictate a running game with just a few short passes. Punts, kickoffs, and field goals will be dicey. The Bills are favored by 10 points but the weather could change all of that.

The disappointing Philadelphia Eagles travel to Tampa Bay to face the surprising Buccaneers. The Eagles are favored by 3 points but Tampa Bay–given the upsets this Wild Card Weekend–might surprise them. Who do you think will win these games?

Jerry, kicking a football in today’s game will be like kicking a brick. Here in balmy North Tonawanda, Diane and I woke up to a temperature of 6 degrees (windchill -5).

The ghost of my long-ago secret husband, Franco Harris, is encouraging me to support the Steelers, but in deference to our friendship, George, I’ll keep my support muted. Plus, I think the Bills have the edge in playing at home and in that lake-effect weather. The Eagles cratered toward the end of the season (I believe they were 1-5 down the stretch), so I feel that the Bucs have the edge in their game.

Deb, I like the Steelers, but I can’t root for them today for obvious reasons. But, with this brutal weather, I’m predicting a close game. No 40+ points in this game!

But you never know. I mean, this weekend has been wild in more ways than one. Go, Bills! I keep forgetting to tell you how many Buffalo Bills license plate borders, stickers, etc. I see down here. I wonder if they’ve all moved down from Western New York or are just fans. I know you didn’t get as much snow as the Orchard Park area, but Jackie wants to know how much you got.

So, it is Green Bay at San Francisco next week, plus the winner of Philadelphia-Tampa Bay at Detroit.

If the Bills win today, they host Kansas City and Houston plays in Baltimore, but if the Steelers win, they go to Baltimore and Houston to Kansas City? I think that’s right.

The Eagles have collapsed enough that the lowly Giants took them apart, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them lose again tonight. That would be somewhat satisfying, the Cowboys and Eagles’ playoff hopes crushed in a weekend.

Jeff, tell Jackie North Tonawanda got 6 inches of snow, but more is on the way. We’re supposed to get 4 more inches before kickoff today, and 8-10 inches on Wednesday. Big Orange cleared the last snowfall and is primed for the upcoming weather events.
