As a Buffalo Bills fan, I’m all in on the LA Chargers defeating the New England Patriots today. But Vegas says the Patriots will win by at least 4 points. The weather will be cold with no blizzards in sight. Deb and her family will be rooting for the Saints to beat the surprising Philadelphia Eagles. The Saints are 8-point favorites. Let’s hope this game doesn’t come down to the kicker! Which teams do you think will win today?
Naturally, I want the Saints to win—but I expect this to be a very hard-fought game. The Eagles who show up In the Superdome today will definitely not be the same team the Saints shellacked with a 40+ point beat down earlier this season. I don’t want the Saints to go into this game with too much confidence. And I don’t want to be looking too far down the road, but I’m glad the Cowboys lost last night. If the Saints win today, I think they have a better chance of winning next week against the Rams than they’d have had against the Cowboys.
I’d like to see the Chargers win the other game, but I suspect Bilichek and Brady will pull out another win.
Deb, we’re rooting for the Saints, too. My niece has Season Tickets to the Saint games so she’s really fired up! I’m hoping the Chargers can pull off the upset.
I was happy with the results of yesterday’s games and will be rooting hard for the Chargers and Saints today. After last week, I do not think the Chargers will fall another victim to Belichick magic, though that is no guarantee they will win, of course. They impressed me a lot in Baltimore. As for the Saints, they have had two weeks off, essentially, and I don’t see them looking past the Eagles.
Jeff, I thought the Colts might have played better than they did. But the Colts did hang around for a good bit of yesterday’s game.
Yesterday I was pulling for the two home teams, and both won. Today I’m pulling for the two road teams, and strongly suspect they’ll both lose. I’m hoping for a KC/Rams Super Bowl.
Michael, a KC vs. Rams Super Bowl would be a track meet!
Today I’ll be watching, and will be pulling for the Chargers (I had season tickets for several years, back in the Dan Fouts days) and for the Saints in the second game. We’ll be having grilled dogs with chili, cheese and onions, probably around the start of the second game, which is 1:00 something here.
As for yesterday, I did some yard work. It was cold and windy, but now it’s done. I was pleased with the outcome of both games.
It was in the 20s here all day yesterday, but the sun was out and the winds of the past few days died down, so it was OK. At least it was dry.
Jeff, Katie is visiting friends in NYC today and seeing a play. But, she’s fighting a cold so I’m sure she’ll be taking the early train back to Boston.
Rick, so far this weekend there have been no surprises. That might change this afternoon.
We had enough snow down here this morning to just cover the sidewalks and the car tops. In Manhattan they might not even have noticed it, as the storm is south of us and we just caught the fringe. Anyway, the sun has melted most of it. I hope she enjoys the show, whatever it is.
Stimulating the Economy Update: don’t want you to think Jackie is slacking off. She got a new, futuristic-looking Krups toaster, a new kitchen garbage pail, and a couple of sweatshirts – all from Amazon, of course.
Jeff, except for the sweatshirts, that’s the kind of stuff we buy at Costco, Bed, Bath and Beyond or Target.
With my broken shoulder, I cannot drive (and Jackie doesn’t). We could – technically – take the bus to Costco but it would be a major hassle to carry stuff back. And Amazon is cheaper for a lot of this anyway. Plus there is the free two day delivery. We have been to Target downtown, but again, carrying heavy stuff back is a no-no – any time it even looks like I am going to lift something with my right arm the yelling starts, We need the car for Bed, Bath & Beyond.
Update: Jackie checked online and Costco has a 4 slice Cuisinart toaster for $50. We wanted a 2 slice (don’t have room for the big one), paid $31 for the Krups. They don’t have any apartment sized kitchen pails.
I guess I’d forgotten Jackie doesn’t drive.
So much for the Chargers. Rivers looked awful and complained about everything, it seemed. That’s unusual for him. Patriots looked strong. Patriots – Chiefs should be a good one.
Rick, you’re right about the New England Patriots peaking at just the right time. The Chargers looked lost. The Patriots vs. Chiefs should be a dandy!
Here’s what happened! I tuned in to the Eagles-Saints game and it was 14-0 Eagles! The first play I saw was an interception by the Saints! Then it was 14-7, 14-14, 14-17, Saints ahead! I switched over to Shark Tank and tuned back to the game during commercials! Saints ahead 14-20! Eagles intercepted again! That was it, the bad guys won again and it was all my fault!
Bob, Deb’s sure happy you tuned in to the Eagles vs. Saints game! Keep the mojo working!
Life is strange …
I remember Krups as a German brand – more than 150 years old!
My mother bought coffee grinders from them – when I wasyoung I did the grinding on a mechanical mill …
But like many companies they’ve become part of a large conglomerate – in this case French . Didn’t know that the French MOULINEX also went bankrupt and was sold:

Wolf, we’ve had several Krups coffee makers over the years, but followed George’s example and switched to a Cuisinart last year. Our Cuisinart toaster, on the other hand, while it made good toast, had one serious flaw: no slide-out crumb tray! There was NO easy way to get the crumbs out, only turn it upside down and shake them out, which was ridiculous. The new Krups has a slide-out tray.
Jeff, our Cuisinart toaster has a slide-out tray. We used to have a Krups toast that worked great for many years. But, the only Krups we’ve seen around here is a 4-slot unit. We prefer a 2-slot toaster now that the kids are gone.
Wolf, we had a Krups toaster we liked very much, but it was a four-slot unit. Now we have a Cuisinart 2-slot toaster that works fine.
