Another week, another book sale! The NT Historical Museum Book Sale also featured a “Bag Sale.” Buy a shopping bag for $5 and you get to take home all the books you can stuff into it. All of these books are as thick as a brick so they filled the bag quick. Still, what a deal!
Wow – I’m jealous. Great deal. The few book sales we’ve been to at the Brooklyn Public Library rarely land us anything that good.
I was surprised to see such quality books going for a song, Jeff. I was the only buyer interested in the Western material.
I’m sure you’ve already read all of those P.I. and Hardboiled stories, George, not sure why you bought them. Looks like you’ll be reading a lot of western stories soon, though.
I’m a sucker for books in good condition that I can buy for a song, Rick. You’re right, I’ve probably read most of those P.I. stories, but there are a few I’ve missed. The Western books rarely show up in these book sales so I jumped on them.
Some nice catches there.
The Westerns were quite a surprise, Randy. You never know what you’ll find at these book sales.
I certainly hope all those were already in the collections…if not, then the librarians in charge of donations are horribly slacking. But you have some good reading ahead of you, in what you might’ve missed in those anthos.
I’m troubled, too, Todd, by these “discards.” Apparently, all these libraries have space problems. They check the computer records for books that aren’t circulating and those are the titles they weed out. Their loss is my gain.
Yes, that’s the usual method. But too often the librarians have little sense of the value or rarity of what they deaccession/discard.
Hence the enthusiasm of certain enlightened librarians for gifts such as one you might remember…
I feel that I have to find Good Books a Good Home, Todd. As libraries discard great books, I have to step in and buy them before the books are sent to the dumpster. Fortunately, SUNY at Buffalo is prepared to preserve paperback and pulp fiction classics.
