I’m very fond of Matthew Hughes faux-Jack Vance stories starring master thief and forger Luff Imbry. Imbry leaves Old Earth to the obscure planet New Gargano. Here, Imbry trades some counterfeit erotic art objects for seven noubles. Noubles are prized more than diamonds, emeralds, or pearls. No one knows where these spectacular gems come from, but noubles are worth vast sums of money. But, after the transaction, Imbry is arrested and sent to a prison planet. Here, mysteries compound. Imbry needs to find a way to escape the prison planet and solve the mystery of the noubles and whimsies. As with all of Matthew Hughes Vancian stories, I was delighted by the cleverness and wit of the storytelling. GRADE: A
I love all his stories. The next best thing to Jack Vance.
Steve, I’m with you all the way! Matthew Hughes is channeling Jack Vance in these wonderful stories!
You should start a podcast on the books you read. No one has a greater range. I love book podcasts and would be a regular listener.
Patti, I’ll give the podcast idea some thought. It sounds like a good summer project.
Not likely to read these as it isn’t really my taste.
Jeff, Matthew Hughes has written some action novels, too.
Sounds kinda fun, but I looked it up and it was published last August and is already OP. There is a copy on A-zon, but at $32 for a 74 page novella, I wouldn’t go there. There’s not even an ebook of it at a cheaper price. Oh, did I mention the library doesn’t have it?
Rick, you might want to check out http://www.matthewhughes.org/
Sounds like great fun – all new to me George, so thanks as always for making the introductions 🙂
Sergio, if you like Jack Vance, you’ll really like Matthew Hughes!
