I confess I’ve never warmed to Sondheim and am perfectly willing to admit the fault may entirely be mine. The exceptions are his oddball side projects, “”The Last of Sheila” and “Evening Primrose,” a musical adaptation of the John Collier story made for television in 1967 that is definitely worth a look. I guess you could add the film adaptation of “West Side Story” although he was but one of many cooks in that kitchen.
Nice to see Bernadette Peters is still rocking it.
Byron, like any prolific artist, Sondheim wrote some masterpieces…and some duds. His career, with ups and downs, generated a lot of musicals that lit up Broadway.
As a huge Sondheim fan, there was no way we weren’t going to see it. We have tickets for the Saturday matinee.
