With the new political spirit, I started listening to my Dance Music CDs. One of my favorites is Only Dance: 1985-1989 from 1995. From the grammatically incorrect “Take On Me” by a-ha to Bananarama’s “Venus” to Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s “Relax” to Falco’s “Rock Me Amadeus” there’s plenty of energetic music to get you up and leaping around!
Are you a fan of dance music? Any favorites here? GRADE: B+

I recognize one of those songs! By the eighties I was no longer interested in the new music! And kindly remove yourself from my greensward!
Bob, I have some Seventies music that I’ll post about in the weeks ahead!
Wake me up when you post fifties and sixties!
Alas, my dancing has been declared a crime against humanity by the International Criminal Court. I can do a mean toe-tapping, though, and throw in an occasional knee slap.
Jerry, an occasional knee slap is always welcome!
I love this collection! Lots of favorites including “I Can’t Wait” (it’s funny, but Stevie Nicks released a different song with the same title around the same time, and that’s also a favorite), “Rock Me, Amadeus”, “Wild Wild Life”, “Things Can Only Get Better”, and “Walking on Sunshine”. These songs bring back memories of my twenties when I was living the single gal’s life in Los Angeles, going to dance clubs, and listening to new wave/alternative music on KROQ. Ah, memories!
Deb, I’m fond of this collection, too! Every song has a memory attached to it! Patrick and Katie were little kids back then, but they loved it when I played “Walking on Sunshine.” That song today has been featured in TV commercials more than any other song!
Nice peppy selection. “Take On Me” is on speed-dial replay on one of the local Hits of the ’80s-’90s’-Today stations. I hear it at least every other day on the radio as my wife and I go and return on grandchild-baby-sitting duty.
Fred, you’re right about ONLY DANCE: 1985-1989 being a peppy CD! It sure gets me moving!
Oh, Hell no. Me and dance go together as well as Jerry and dance. “Rock Me Amadeus” needs to be bashed over the head with a rock and buried forever. There are a few that I like here – Take On Me, Walking on Sunshine, Venus, Everybody Have Fun Tonight.
Jeff, sometimes I need some dance music to perk me up! I’m surprised about how many people dislike “Rock Me Amadeus.”
My kids were starting to get into music here so some of these are pretty familiar. But the early nineties I like even more.
Patti, I’ll be posting about some early 1990s music in a few weeks!
Also in the no Rock Me Amadeus camp, but there’s a lot of stuff here I like. I don’t really think of them as dance music, but that’s because I don’t dance — so I don’t know what music you can dance to and what music you can’t. Favorites would be Wild Wild Life and Relax.
Jeff, my dancing days are over. But, I do enjoy music like this that has a lot of energy!
