Diane and I took our 14-year-old Oreck vacuum cleaner for its annual maintenance checkup at Supervacuums in Hamburg, NY. The young technician looked at our Oreck and said, “I could give you a $150 rebate for your Oreck if you buy a new Riccar SupraLite Standard Lightweight Vacuum (R10S).”
Diane and I tried out the Riccar R10S in the store and liked it. So we traded our old Oreck for a new Riccar. Diane, who does most of the vacuuming, tested it in our living room and liked its maneuverability and suction. So far, so good. How do you like your vacuum cleaner?
The bags make handy, if rather obvious, hiding places for drugs, liquor bottles, etc.
Not hiding places, Dan. I prefer to think of them as “storage areas.”
Jerry, most of my books would not fit in that vacuum cleaner bag.

We have a Bissell—we bought it at Walmart. It gets the job done.
Deb, Dissell is a popular brand. For me, reliability and performance are the two most important factors.
I knew that photo was a scam! How about one of Diane vacuuming?
Since we got rid of our rugs, we mostly use our new Kenmore CSV/Go electric broom for all floors. The light is light a flashlight pointing out hidden crumbs.
Jeff, Diane does most of the vacuuming but I pitch in when needed. Diane took the photo because she doesn’t like my cell phone photos. She says I take the photo “too fast.”
Sounds familiar. Jackie always criticizes the pictures I take of her – she “wasn’t ready” or whatever. She insists on sitting (or standing) up straight, making sure her hair is right, etc.
Jeff, I like “unposed” photos, action shots really. But, Diane doesn’t.
I have a roomba, which picks up dust more than anything else. And a Shark.
Patti, we have a small Shark, too, for quick vacuuming and spills. Love it!
Our Riccar was extremely unreliable, catastrophically broken at least twice. Much better luck with yours. (We’re pretty happy with our Miele vacuums, which misled us into trusting them to make a good dishwasher–independently, my sister and her wife redid their entire kitchen with Miele appliances…all fine, except the dishwasher., which broke down as quickly as ours did.)
Todd, our Oreck was working well, but it was 14 years old and I’m leery about older appliances. We have friends who have a Riccar and like it. We don’t have pets so that extends the life of our vacuum cleaners. If we were looking for a new vacuum, we would have looked at a larger Shark. Our little Shark works great!
Jackie wants to know: how do you get it upstairs?
Jeff, tell Jackie we have another vacuum cleaner upstairs so we don’t have to lug anything upstairs. Plus, both bedrooms have hardwood floors. Sometimes Diane just uses her Swiffer.
