PETER GUNN

Peter Gunn is the first private eye TV show I can remember watching. I liked it, but being nine at the time, I didn’t “get” a lot of what was going on. Some might complain that these DVDs are bit hissy and the editing is heavy-handed. Granted. However, until a better, cleaner, more complete set of Peter Gunn disks show up, these will do nicely.

If you’re waiting for a cleaner, quieter release, I’m afraid it’s going to be a real long wait. The negatives on PETER GUNN have been lost and the quality of the syndication prints that are available for airing and for transfer to DVD, are, to be charitable, rather pathetic. I’m not sure whose fault it is, but at one point I even GAVE my 16mm print of an episode of YANCY DERRINGER to the distributor because they had no copies of the episode. Maybe we should get PETER GUNN to investigate this!!!

It’s tragic that so many of those classic 1950s TV programs show up on DVD in such deteriorated conditions. The recently released M Squad set has many of the same problems as Peter Gunn.
