PHILADELPHIA EAGLES VS. BUFFALO BILLS

The bickering 3-4 Philadelphia Eagles come to Buffalo desperate for a victory. The Eagles have lost two games in a row–including an embarrassing Bad Game in Dallas last week. The 5-1 Buffalo Bills played a weak Miami Dolphins team last week and just squeaked by with a 31-21 win (with the help of a return of an on-side kick). The weather here is wet and windy. That could affect the game. How will your favorite NFL do today?

Is it my imagination or is the on-side kick becoming more common? Maybe I’m thinking that because the Bears tried it twice against the Saints last week (and were successful once and almost made it work the second time).

The 6-1 Saints are back in the Superdome today to take on the 3-3-1 Cardinals, who seem to better than their record would indicate. Word is, QB Drew Brees, who’s been on the DL with a thumb injury, will start this game. If Sean Payton had consulted me (which he foolishly did not), I would have told him to allow Brees to sit out this game going into next week’s bye week, giving him two more weeks to heal. Oh well, I guess that’s why I’m not an NFL coach.

Brees is the “big name” and they want to get him in there – especially in front of the home crowd – as quickly as possible, but I have to agree with you. Sit him one more week.

As for the hapless Giants, not that it matters what with their pathetic performance against the very beatable Cardinals last week, but they are fortunate (as are the Jets) to be on the road this week rather than playing in the soggy, windy (but warm!) Meadowlands. My advice in Detroit is, give the ball to Saquon Barkley. Then give it to him again and again and again. That’s the only chance they won’t blow another winnable game.

‘Scuse me while I stick on a CD: RHYTHM OF THE RAIN, with the title song plus Rainy Night in Georgia, Raindrops, Crying in the Rain, I Love a Rainy Night, Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head, I Wish It Would Rain, Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again, Rain on the Roof, Walking in the Rain, Save It for a Rainy Day, Laughter in the Rain, It Might as Well Rain Until September, Rhapsody in the Rain, The Rain the Park and Other Things, It Never Rains in Southern California and a few others.

How about “I Can’t Stand the Rain” (there are various versions, but my favorite was by Ann Peebles) or “Here Comes the Rain Again” by the Eurythmics?

/“Rainy Night in Georgia” is one of the best, most melancholy songs of the last 50 years. You really do feel like it’s raining all over the world when you listen to it. Love it!

I have several versions of “Rainy Night in Georgia” – one of my favorite songs – not only the Brook Benton, but a great version by Boz Scaggs and an Aaron Neville and a duet between Sam Moore and Conway Twitty! Tony Joe White’s best IMHO.

Seahawks at Atlanta today. The Seahawks looked so bad last week it’s hard to imagine they could play worse. We’ll see.

Meanwhile, the Nationals are stinking’ up da joint, but the Ducks won over Washington State in a great game. Had a wonderful day yesterday (see my blog).
