PROFESSOR T, SERIES 4 (PBS)

Professor T. is a British crime drama television series starring Ben Miller as Professor Jasper Tempest, a genius University of Cambridge criminologist with obsessive compulsive disorder.

In the opening episode, “Carpe Diem,” of this new series of Professor T, Tempest is dealing with the shocking death that concluded Series 3. The professor retreats into his lectures at Cambridge and ignores attempts by the police to involve him in more crime solving. But Dr. Helena Goldberg (Juliet Stevenson), Jasper’s therapist, helps Tempest return to his police work in a baffling case where a young woman is missing on ship. Was she murdered? Did she accidentally fall overboard? Or did she commit suicide? Only Tempest sees the true situation. GRADE: Incomplete, but treading towards a B

We rewatched the last episode of series 3 before watching this, which, admittedly, was not one of the stronger episodes.

Though I like it better than MONK, for the most part, it is certainly less tragic at its heart, and definitely. like MONK, enjoys its own shtick. I haven’t seen the new season yet, but can believe it wasn’t careful to start without seeming to run a bit low on steam.

Todd, Professor T is grieving in the First Episode and it takes some time for his therapist to convince him to get involved in police investigation again. But, once Tempest is engaged in the search for the missing woman, things move quickly.

Indeed, I’ve just seen the first episode…definitely time to join PBS as a member again, which I haven’t done since I was providing them scheduling data through TV GUIDE (and had an ongoing income vs. the nest egg I’ve been denting of late).

Good! WHYY in Philly has only displeased me by dropping Harry Shearer’s LE SHOW the week after the Drumpf defunding…ex-NJ Gov. Tantrum Santorum had zero’d out NJ PBS some years ago, and now it’s basically part of the WNET group, and as a result has been somewhat diminished.

Todd, the Buffalo PBS station (WNED) has partnered with Toronto so there’s in inflow of Canadian dollars supporting the programming. The Canadians are pissed at Trump for wanting to make their country the 51st State, but they’re still sending money to WNED.
