RAZOR’S EDGE: STAR WARS LEGENDS By Martha Wells (EMPIRE & REBELLION SERIES)

I’m a big fan of Martha Wells’s work, but I wasn’t engaged by Razor’s Edge: Star Wars Legends (2013). Princess Leia is on the run after the destruction of her home planet, Alderaan, by the Death Star. Razor’s Edge takes place before the events in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. Needing supplies, Leia and her small band of rebels are captured by space pirates. However, Leia learns the pirates were survivors of the Alderaan tragedy. She thinks she might be able to recruit them to the rebel cause. But, the Empire is searching for Princess Leia. Han Solo, along with Luke, Chewbacca, 3-CPO, and R2D2 attempt to keep Leia safe in this hostile space pirate environment. Lots of chase scenes. Some run-of-the-mill space battles. Nothing special. Are you a fan of these STAR WARS novels? GRADE: C

Never read one. Too much other stuff out there to hold my interest. Read a couple of Star Trek ones when I was younger, but I read them because they were written by James Blish who I liked. The only thing I have read by Martha Wells is All Systems Red which I liked.

I actually read all those Blish Star Trek novelisations before watching most of the tv episodes – also found them very good!

On the other hand I think it’s crazy how they try to get more and more out of these “worlds” like Star Wars and Star Trek – aren’t people interested in finding new ideas any more?

Wolf, in Marketing it’s called “brand extension.” When you have a product that sells, you want to keep adding to it to sell more!

George, I know – but it actually turns me off!

I’d rather have something with new ideas instead of just regurgitating old stuff …
This fixation on “brand” seems to me typical for a consumer generation – there are not too many brands that we enjoy (in food e g). My wife often uses “brand” as a negative criterion – don’t buy from this company, they only sell crap!

    Totally OT:
George, I just reasd that there’s another Nor’Easter rolling – did you feel its effects too?
    Wish everybody good luck!

Wolf=, High Pressure over eastern Canada is keeping the Nor’easters south of us. But we’ve already gotten 105 inches of snow this Winter and don’t need any more!

Wow! 105 inches = more than two and a half meters …

Never seen that much snow in Central Europe, maybe in the Alps they get that much.

Now I really understand why you bought “The Big Orange”… 🙂

George, we’ve been watching The Weather Channel coverage, and it definitely looked like they could have used Big Orange for the wet, heavy snow.
