Bill Crider recommended Harlan Ellison’s graphic novel, 7 Against Chaos, here. This is Ellison’s tribute to The Magnificent Seven. A band of misfits take on an Evil that could destroy Earth. Ellison’s clever plotting and bizarre characters generate plenty of excitement. Paul Chadwich’s wonderful artwork perfectly complement Ellison’s story. It only took me an hour to read 7 Against Chaos, but it was an hour full of that Sense of Wonder. GRADE: A
I have yet to read a graphic novel. Have always found the pages too busy for me. My eyes don’t know how to connect the graphics and diaglog.
Patti, you would find 7 AGAINST CHAOS easy to read. The artwork is clean and not cluttered. And Harlan Ellison’s story is compelling.
Cool. I like the artwork a lot.
Jeff, I liked the artwork for 7 AGAINST CHAOS a lot. And Harlan Ellison hasn’t lost any of his story-telling talent.
George, typo in your brief, it’s Chadwick, not Chadwich.
I thought this was a pretty good one, and was able to get it from the library!
Rick, I was able to reserve it at my library too.
Rick, thanks for the correction. All this correcting is causing me to make mistakes!
Would you believe I was in a comic apa with Chadwick when he was still a teenager? Other members included Art Scott, Chris Warner, Ron Harris, Mark Verheiden (who started it), and Frank Miller. I wonder what happened to those guys.
I love Ellison but don;t know much abotu graphic novels beyond Frank Miller etc though I loved Mavel comics as a kid – this sounds like a great ‘jumping on’ point – thanks very much for the intro!
Sergio, 7 AGAINST CHAOS is a terrific graphic novel. A good place to start!
