The story of Elizabeth Chan, a marketing executive who quit her job to follow her dream of writing Christmas songs, is inspiring (you can real all about it here). Red & Green includes a dozen songs, very listenable. But my favorite is “Christmas in the City” with its heart-felt energy. Take a listen below. I wanted to support Elizabeth Chan’s hopes so I bought her CD. We need more people who are willing to risk everything to achieve their dreams!

That seems an oddly specific goal: to quit your job not to be a songwriter but to write Christmas songs; kinda like quitting your job to become a chef who bakes only blueberry pies. Her songs are nice and I wish her the best, but if one of these songs doesn’t become a new “Christmas classic” and get recorded by all and sundry, along with massive December airplay, I’m afraid she’ll be back behind a desk in an office.
Deb, my thoughts about Elizabeth Chan’s bold move parallel yours. Writing Christmas songs for a living is Risky Business. I wish her well.
Yeah, it does seem a real niche market. I can’t see Mark Cuban or Barbara Corcoran supporting her. But she is certainly photogenic and, who knows?
Jeff, I like the scenes of New York City in her music video!
Nice voice and a quite professional video. I wish her all the best, but she might want to branch out a little.
Bill, I think I would get tired after writing over 350 Christmas songs.
The song you ga e us doesn’t sound very “Christmasy” to me, but she is very beautiful, so maybe that will help.
Rick, I’m impressed with Elizabeth Chan writing over 350 Christmas songs. But it’s a very narrow niche.
I like the scenes in the video too. But do Christmas CDS sell other than at this time of the year?
Jeff, the radio stations around here start playing Christmas songs the day after Halloween and keep playing them until New Year’s Day. That’s a long time to sell Christmas CDs.
It is well written: The lotus blossom is the fairest flower.
Bob, well said!
You should hear my Benson Fong impression.
Bob, ha, ha!
Hi George, I agree with you! Thank you for your support, it means a lot to me. Hope you had a wonderful holiday and a prosperous New Year! 🙂
Elizabeth, what a thrill to have you commenting on my blog! I’m a professor at a Western New York community college and I told all of my students in my MARKETING and MANAGEMENT classes about your bold decision to follow your dream! I also showed them your album and suggested it might be a great stocking stuffer! I wish you continued success! And, when you bring out another album, I’ll be first in line to buy it!
