ROCK CHRONICLES Edited by David Roberts

Darren Mitchell was kind enough to alert me to Rock Chronicles: Every Legend, Every Line-Up, Every Look (2012). Rock Chronicles follows the format of Sci-Fi Chronicles that I reviewed here. Plenty of photos and charts. Who knew that of all Eric Clapton’s albums, Unplugged (1992) was his biggest seller at 24 million copies. These “Chronicle” books are a browsers delight. If you’re looking for an entertaining Rock History volume, this is it. I bought my copy online for a penny (plus Shipping & Handling). There’s an updated version published in 2015, but this edition fits the bill for me. GRADE: B

George, thanks again! Clapton is one of my favourite Rock musicians – any my wife really adores him.

We’ll try to find this too, maybe in London – or we’ll have to come to the USA again – right now we can’t, so sorry about that.

Or we’ll ask my wife#s relatives in Nashville to get it as a Xmas present – the teenagers were so happy with us here in Hungary, I’m sure they’ll invest some time.

Wolf, both of the “Chronicle” books weigh a ton. Shipping costs to Europe could be exorbitant. But, they are great books! Maybe your local public library could acquire them through an inter-loan and you could check them out.

George, re the library – not a big chance.

So I’m really thinking that our relatives might bring some books the next time they fly to Europe – they usually don’t bring too many clothes, so are way under the limit – just on the way back they take German chocolate …
        PS:
I took the liberty of quoting your comment on a German Eric Clapton forum – I’m sure you don’t mind that.

This is definitely my kind of book.

You’re right – sending anything to Europe now is ridiculously expensive.

Jeff, I once sent a former student an accounting book. The student was a foreign-exchange student in Japan. Shipping the book to Japan cost $27. That was 10 years ago!

I have to confess that I’m also doing a lot of browsing re SF authors and Rock and Blues Musicians, the stories of their songs etc, their lives etc – just wikipedia even offers an unbelievable amount of info and of course all those hyperlinks take you from one subject to something maybe totally different!

Now that I’m retired I do only two kind of things:
Those that I like to do and those that I absolutely have to do … (like taxes …)!

And my wife is so happy with her kindle – her son copied hundreds or maybe thousands of books, SF, Fantasy and Thrillers (all in Hungarian of course …) she has such a wide selection to choose from!

There must be many translators who do this just for fun – I can’t believe that you make a lot of money by translating Kurt Vonnegut into Hungarian e g …

Disco, meh! Compared to rap it’s fantastic, but a little of it goes a long way with me! I have no great love for ’80s hair bands. There were a few good songs to come out of that era but not enough to enthrall me! And get your big, fat, grass-killing feet off of my lawn!
