That Netgear box is a N300 Wireless Router, Bob. With the old router, Patrick and Katie could only use their wireless laptops in the kitchen. Now, with this new super-fast and powerful router, our whole house is an Internet hot-spot. The kids can use their laptops anywhere in our house now. And, Patrick enabled the wireless Internet connection on our SONY HDTV so now we can access the Internet on our Bravia. It’s way cool!
Nice bit of hardware, George and congrats on revising your network settings to accommodate it. Who says you’re not tech savvy? Oh, you had the kid do it, did you? Well, okay then.
My router was just barely strong enough for Wife’s needs at the far end of the house, so we also added one, but rather than beefing the one on the iMac, I got a 2nd one, added a network and set that up, so she has a separate, secure portal for her business needs. Since it’s a work-at-home situation, that seemed the best way to go, and the cost will be either billed to her company or deducted from our taxes.
I got a new bit of hardware as well, a new external hard drive (more on that tomorrow). I’m doing the full drive back-up just now, then Time Machine will take over.
Actually, I think our Holiday Spending was down a bit this year, Jeff. We didn’t buy as much “stuff” for the kids. But we made up the difference in cash (students appreciate that).
Have you noticed how many computer gizmos these days are designed to look like the 2001 Monolith? Your new router, my external 1 & 2 TB drives no exception. I’m surprised tower cases don’t have a glowing red light on the face to look like HAL.
Just watching Season One of Slings.
I’m looking forward to watching all of SLINGS & ARROWS once the holiday craziness subsides, Patti. I’ve heard very good things about the series.
I’m so out of it I don’t know what thet Netgear box is.

Nice, Rick! Patrick has a couple external hard drives (mostly for music). I mostly use flash drives.
Nice new toys, George. Way to stimulate the economy!

Hey, you can never go wrong with cash. As someone said, green is a favorite color.
I heard on NBC news that 40% of all Christmas presents get returned, Jeff. But I’ve never heard of anyone returning cash.
George, I hope you’ll all be okay through the big storm. Keep us posted, won’t you, please?
The storm missed us entirely, Rick. Poor Jeff and Jackie and Jeff and Ann and all our friends on the East Coast are getting buried in snow!

Patrick says you can get a computer case that looks like the Monolith complete with glowing red light, Art.
