SHANTARAM [Apple TV+]

Based on the internationally best-selling novel (2003) by Gregory David Roberts, Shantaram follows an Australian fugitive going under the name “Lin Ford” (Charlie Hunnam) looking to get lost in vibrant and chaotic 1980s Bombay. Alone in an unfamiliar city, Lin struggles to avoid the trouble he’s running from in this new setting. After falling for an enigmatic and intriguing woman named Karla, Lin finds himself drawn into a web of intrigue.

I’ve watched the first episode and the fabulous location of Bombay with its many schemes and unusual characters drew me in. The series will consist of twelve episodes directed by Justin Kurzel and Bharat Nalluri.  Rotten Tomatoes reported a 56% approval rating. It’s too soon for me to assign a grade, but I’ll be watching this series in the weeks ahead.

I read and liked the novel when it came out. Unfortunately I can’t get Apple TV unless I breakdown and get a Roku or Firestick.

Steve, the novel has plenty of fans. Apple TV+ offers “free” viewing days around holidays so maybe you’ll get an opportunity to watch SHANTARAM around Thanksgiving or Christmas.

I don’t have apple, but will check on the free period, thanks. I had netflix streaming for a while, but couldn’t figure out how to fast forward, so it was very frustrating for me. I periodically go back to getting dvds from them to keep my queue active, but that gets tiresome. I’ll probably get a new tv next year, so will be asking for your advice on that

Maggie, speaking of “free” trials, Sirius/XM radio is offering free service for a limited time. Just go to the Sirius/XM website and check it out if you’re interested.

Maggie, I think you have to have one of the Sirius/XM devices (most cars come with them as Standard Equipment). They just send an Activation Signal and you instantly get the full Sirius/XM package. You can also listen to Sirius/XM on your computer and cell phone. I also have heard that if you have Amazon Alexa or GOOGLE HOME Sirius/XM will play on those devices, too.
