I’ve been a fan of Sarah McLachlan’s for decades. I own all her CDs. I’ve seen her in concert three times (all great performances!) and may see her a fourth time this summer When Sarah McLachlan shows up at Artpark. All that being said, you might guess this review of Shine On might be a wee bit biased. Shine On is not one of Sarah McLachlan’s better albums. Yes, the songs are pleasant, but there’s nothing compelling here. If you really want the best of Sarah McLachlan, I recommend THE ESSENTIAL SARAH MCLACHLAN which came out last year. Two CDs full of great music for $10 on AMAZON. More music, better music for less money. Shine One will only appeal to hard-core fans. GRADE: C

I have one of her early CDs but haven’t played it in a long time. It seems like we usually play music without vocals now. I wonder why. I should put some of these CDs in the car since there is nothing good on the radio. We might listen more there.
After having Sirius in the rental car on our [first] trip to Arizona we are seriously considering adding that, Patti, at least in our next car. I always forget to bring CD’s for the car.
Patti, our Nissans have a nice storage compartment in the armrest for CDs.
Jeff, we have Siriux/Xm Radio in both of our vehicles. It’s great on trips to Boston.
Jackie really liked the ’60’s stations. We have the space for CDs I just forget to bring them. I should leave half a dozen in there all the time.
Jeff, Diane carries six or seven CDs in her new Altima. I have about a dozen in the Rogue.
A quick look shows a price of $18.96 for that other album, but I doubt I’d buy it even at $10, or $5. Just not my area of musical interest.
Rick, I consider Sarah McLachlan in the class of Linda Ronstadt.
SMc must like that new album cover better than the restrospective’s…at least, I do. Your autocorrect, perhaps only in your fingers, has the title repeatedly as SHINE ONE rather than SHINE ON. And you might want to burn some home copies of the originals for leaving in the car, for those occasional hot days that are unkind to discs.
Todd, thanks for the correction. As you might suspect, I’m a little foggy from the sciatic pain medications. And, yes, I do burn CDs for the car. Heat and cold can ruin them.
