The only reason to see this movie is Ginnifer Goodwin who looks cute in just about every scene. Ginnifer plays Rachel, a repressed lawyer. Ginnifer’s annoying best friend (played by Kate Hudson), Darcy, is engaged to marry the guy (Tom Cruise clone, Colin Egglesfield) Ginnifer loves. John Krasinski (from The Office) is largely wasted as Ginnifer’s long suffering friend. I thought Gennifer should have ended up with John Krasinski but what do I know. What do you call a romantic comedy that isn’t very romantic and isn’t very funny? You could call it Something Borrowed. GRADE: C
Kate Hudson has done the same thing with her career that Katherine Heigl has done to hers: waste it in a series of unfunny romantic-comedies (which are neither romantic nor funny) in which women are either clumsy dolts or bitchy shrews. Who knows–perhaps it’s something to do with the initials K.H. Whatever the reason, when I see either of them is in a movie, I know it’s a movie I’ll be avoiding.
I was a big Kate Hudson fan early in her career, Deb. But, you’re right: Kate has chosen some Bad Roles in some Bad Movies and now her trajectory is down.
Another one I’m saving money by not seeing.
SOMETHING BORROWED has a good cast, Rick. But the script needed a lot of work.
I think I can safely skip this one.
Unless you want to watch Gennifer Goodwin emoting cuteness, Bill, SOMETHING BORROWED can safely be ignored.
Some day someone will come along who can write good romantic comedies again. Can it be so hard?
The last good romantic comedy I can remember is DEFINITELY MAYBE, Patti.
I love Ginnifer Goodwin but you’d have to pay me big money to sit through this…or any Kate Hudson/Jennifer Anniston/Katherine Heigl romcom. Didn’t Julia Roberts make this same movie more than once too?
I think even critics agree with you on Ginnifer and Krasinski, George.
Ginnifer and John Krasinski had some on-screen chemistry, Jeff. Ginnifer and Colin Egglesfield had zero. And you’re right about Julia Roberts. But we saw a trailer for a Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks romantic comedy that I’m sure is Diane’s Must-See list.
Calling someone a Tom “Smirking Dwarf” Cruise clone is a low blow, George.
Colin Egglesfield looks just like a young Tom Cruise, Bob.
