Christmas came early at the Kelley household. Diane decided since Patrick and Katie were home, they could help us choose and install a new HDTV. Our trusty SONY 46″ Bravia was obsolete and it was time to upgrade. Patrick researched HDTVs and found the SONY XBR X850D offered the best value. Diane and I have had very good luck with our other SONY products over the years. We considered SAMSUNG but with their phones catching on fire and their washers flinging parts around, we decided to make the Safe and Dependable choice. The new HDTV was delivered a couple days ago, Patrick set it up, and now we’re enjoyed the bigger, crisper brilliant screen and the enhanced sound. Highly recommended!
Hope Santa leaves that Special Gift you’ve been yearning for under your tree!
Just got a 55″ Sony. Love the picture especially on Blu Rays.
Steve, you are so right about the quality of the SONY picture with Blu-rays. Fabulous!
wow I’d love it, but the problem is space. I’ll take your advice and replace my samsung when its time with a sony
Maggie, we’ve had a number of SONY products and they’ve all given us quality, reliable service.
Will the ultra HD 4k mean your dvd’s won’t work any longer. When I went to get some for gifts, I noticed tons of 4k ones at best buy
Maggie, our SONY Blu-ray player plays DVDs and Blu-rays. There isn’t a lot of 4K content yet, but I think 2017 will be the Year of 4K!
And our Samsung Range is a disaster. You have to order the parts from Korea.
Good move. Happy holidays!
Patti, SAMSUNG has had problems with their appliances. The reports of SAMSUNG washing machines that flung parts around are particularly disturbing.
The Sony I got was originally a Samsung. I bought a Samsung on Thanksgiving for $549 at Best Buy. They delivered it several days later. My son in law helped me set it up. The screen was cracked. I went to exchange it but they had no more in stock. They offered me a Sony which was selling for$899 for the $549 price. A much higher grade TV. I jumped on it.
Steve, you lucked out! We’re really enjoying the new SONY as much as you’re enjoying yours!
Very nice! I see that retirement will not stop you and Diane from finding ways to stimulate the economy! But I’m surprised you didn’t post about the many NFL games being played today, including the Saints (playing the Bucs) and, I believe, the Bills.
Deb, I was tempted to blog about the Miami Dolphins vs. Buffalo Bills game today as well as the Saints vs. the Bucs. But the enjoyment we’re getting from the new SONY tipped the balance to HDTV over NFL.
There was an article in the front page of our newspaper today that the chargers have leased office space (HQ) and training space in Costa Mesa CA (Orange County) though they have till jan 15th on moving, I think that says it all. They wasted a ton of $$ on the Carson debacle, that could have been put toward fixing up the Q or even toward a new stadium. Buh Buh cheapo spanos
Maggie, the Chargers have been under-performing under the Spanos.
I’m hoping the Browns win today. I’d hate to see them not have a win, and it’s meaningless to the chargers
Maggie, your intuition was right on the money! The Cleveland Browns finally won a game!
Nice! Way to stimulate the economy and celebrate your retirement at the same time. We always loved our Sony TVs too. In recent years, however, we’ve gone with Samsung, which Jackie says has had the best ratings and prices. Granted, like Maggie we don’t have your space and ours is about half the size, but for us this works perfectly, as have all the Samsung smart phones we’ve had.
I’m with Deb in that I expected an NFL report, but since the Giants screwed away another winnable game on Thursday night we’re better off without it.
Jeff, I was surprised when the Eagles jumped out to a 14-0 lead in what was for them a Meaningless Game. The Giants just didn’t show up. Will the Bills show up today against the Dolphins? Probably not.
It’s a rivalry and they could – and did – play the spoiler. Sorry, Jeff, but I was rooting for the Eagles.
Nice television, George. I like watching animated films on a big small screen. We’ve had no problems with our Samsung TV and washing machine. The after-sale service is prompt because these appliances are made in India.
Prashant, I’m glad you’re have good success with your SAMSUNG products. They’ve had some Quality Control issues here.
I would love to have one, but the built-in area for TV in our home only allows 42″ max. We have a Panasonic, and it’s fine, but I’d really like a 60 or better. You picked a very nice one. As for a TV being “obsolete”, I hate that about tech. I figure if it works, it’s fine. We still have an old Sony picture tube 28 inch that looks great, but I wish it would die so I could replace it.
Rick, after enjoying a few days of the SONY 65″ HDTV, I have to admit Bigger is Better! I like the Yamaha Sound Bar that Patrick picked out, too!
DAN’S CHRISTMAS WISDOM
(all rights reserved)
When I was a child, Christmas was the time I dreamed of getting everything I ever wanted, all the toys in the World, and a pony.
As I’ve grown older, the things I really want have become more personal, more expensive, and less likely to appear under a Christmas Tree. And I’m too big for a pony.
At the same time, I find I’ve been thinking more about other people; what small thing would bring a smile, what little service would someone appreciate, what little gesture would let them know they are loved.
And as Christmas has become more about Giving and less about Getting, it has come to man much less to me. I don’t sleep fitfully on Christmas Eve, dreaming of gestures, and I don’t run downstairs in my pajamas on Christmas Morning, eager to be nice to somebody.
Without the avarice, it just isn’t the same sacred holiday I loved as a child.
Dan, I’m with you on the commercialization of Christmas. For me, Christmas has always been about celebrating with Family and Friends.
Talk about adding insult to injury. The NFL cuts away from an overtime game with just 6 minutes left because “contractual obligations” insist they go to the studio for the post-game show when the game isn’t over! Does that make even the slightest amount of sense?
Then the Bills lose anyway.
Rub it in, Daddy Warbucks! Come the Revolution and you conspicuous consumers are going to e the first to go! In my world, “obsolete” means it no longer works no matter how hard you hit it! Too bad about the Bills!
Bob, I’m just doing my Patriotic Duty by buying the SONY and stimulating the Economy! Now that the Bills are Officially Eliminated from the Playoffs, Rex Ryan can finally get fired.
Jeff, I knew the Bills would lose their game with the Dolphins. Rex Ryan’s Defense didn’t stop anybody this season. On top of that, Rex’s Defense allowed Jay Ajayi to run for another 200 yards (he ran for 200 yards in the last game he played against the Bills). Disgraceful! Hopefully, this loss agains the Dolphins will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back and gets Rex fired!
