For years, many of my coffee-addicted friends would reject Starbucks’ brews because they were “too strong” or “too bitter.” Someone in Starbucks’ Marketing Department must have finally taken notice because now we have a line of Starbucks Blonde coffees. The “Blonde” refers to a lighter roast which produces a lighter, brighter taste. I bought a bag of Starbucks Blonde Willow Blend Coffee and after a week of drinking this delightful beverage, I can give this new Starbucks product two thumbs up! I also bought a bag of Blonde Verona that’s in the on-deck circle. If you’re one of those folks who avoided Starbucks coffee because of taste issues, you might really like this lighter brew. GRADE: A
I like coffee, and I like it strong and black. I always buy the “bold” coffee, usually Gold Coast. Even the Breakfast Blend is a little too light for my taste. So I doubt this would be for me.
You’re right, Rick. The “Blonde” coffees are not targeted at you.
Not for me either. I like a strong coffee. Never been in a Starbucks and never want to. They are on my s**t list because I have an aversion to paying what they ask for a coffee. And from others, I found it’s hard to even get just a regular coffee.
Since I consider coffee the “ambrosia of the Gods,” Starbucks offends my sensibilities. That’s just me as I know they are a very popular chain.
I rarely visit a Starbucks store, Randy. But I buy big bags of their coffee at Sam’s Club or BJ’s Warehouse.
George, Jackie (with her Gold Card) is a regular Starbucks customer as you know. She likes coffee stronger than I do but we both switched to the Verona some time ago, occasionally drinking the more traditional Pike. We haven’t tried the Willow yet but will soon.
You and Jackie will love the Willow, Jeff. Its light, bright taste is addicting!
Randy, there are many people who dislike Starbucks for “political” or business reasons, but their coffee is very good indeed and that’s why we go. We tried several of the local Portland coffees when we came here, Peets, Stumptown, Portland Roasters, and none of them compare. Go ahead, try Starbucks. It doesn’t hurt a bit.
